building a house for mom
« on: June 21, 2012, 06:35:52 AM »
This summer in my "spare time"  I am building a new house for my mother.  I am not asking to get paid, after all I'm sure she spent more raising me.  I am doing the general contracting and all that fun stuff.  My regular job keeps me busy for 4, 10 hour days.  I help my brother with his racecar a few nights a week.  The thing that gets me is that people keep saying how much money I must be making?  I tell them I do it for free because it's my family, they all think I'm crazy and tell me so.  I just feel like that's what you do for family!  I also feel like there are alot of like minded people here on FF and that's what Ii like about it! ;D

Makes sense to me. Wish mine was around to build one for. You will be better paid in your own heart in the years to come than any amount of money.

Some folks are jealous, some will admire you, some will wish that they could do the same, and some just do not understand.

You and your Mom will understand and that is all that matters.  Good memories last a lifetime.  Both yours and hers.

You are doing the right thing. Family tied together by doing for each other is more rewarding than family trying to destroy each other. Your efforts will be rewarded now and way down the road. What other people say thats negative havent lived long enough to understand what life is really about. Keep up the good work and have a great day. bg

My sister built an in-law suite on her property for our Dad.  We all owe her a debt of gratitude we can never repay, because Dad is happy and has his independence, but also she and her husband look in on him at least twice daily.

Say when

It's refreshing to know that there are people out there like yourself who look out for others.  No dollar sign can be put next to family values.

I tip my hat to you, sir.

Yup, look after your Mum, and the rest of your family. Money? You can earn more later. Family, you only got the ones you got....

That's what friends and family are for. I do hope the people who are knocking you down are not your so called friends, because they won't be there when you need them.

You are a great son!

As a mom to two sons, I kind of have a feeling I know what your mom must be thinking....she is thinking that she is the luckiest mom in the world to have such a good son.   ;)
