one of my gas tanks is getting very hard to attach and remove the quick disconnect.  is there any maintanence on these things?

Check the o-rings. They may have swollen from the gas.

Also a few drops of oil on the female half of the quick connect. The indent balls may be a little rusted. You can smear a real light coat of grease on the male end too.

I'll tear it apart tomorrow.  I think I may order a few of the fittings as spares.  I really had to wrestle it in there to change gas tanks today.

Spares would be good. They should be pretty cheap. You might find them at the auto parts store.

yeah, i had to cancel a job once because of not having a spare, and a spare saved the day for me once.  I like having spares on hand!

I had a similar problem.

In my case there are two connectors. The G28 Fuel Injected engine draws fuel from the tank through a metal quick-connect, and returns excess fuel through a plastic quick-connect (the same one that's used as a suction connection on the G25 engine). The metal connectors are a completely different style from the plastic ones.

I found that after a while the plastic connector got very stiff, especially in cold weather. So I replaced it with one of the metal connectors. Never a problem after that (of course I have to make sure I don't connect the fuel lines backwards -- the return tube doesn't go to the bottom of the tank ;D)

You'll need a male metal connector for each fuel tank, and one female connector for the hose on the mill. The female connectors have the same threads as the plastic connectors, so it's a very simple conversion.

Part numbers are:
Male connectors (tank side) - 015583.
Female connector (hose) - 015582

good idea, I don't have a fuel injected engine, so I don't have a return line.  I think I'll swap to the metal connectors.

the male connector goes on the tank?  i figured the female connector would.  (just double checking before I order)

Yep, male on the tank, female on the hose. Opposite from the plastic ones.

The metal couplings are a scaled down version of a typical hydraulic quick-connect. The female coupling has an outer ring that slides back to release some small bearings that lock onto the male fitting.
