Title: Done lurking
Post by: meathook on January 17, 2013, 10:53:43 PM
My dad and I bought a mobile dimension mill last fall at an auction. We've been working on it in the shop and finally got a good day with it. We wanted to go through everything on it to make sure it was ready to work. At the end of the day we were both smiling ;D

Meathook, welcome to the forum. Good job on the pictures. I saw one of them being used at Bangor Expo a few years ago. What's all the lumber going to be used for?

We've had the sawdust bug for years. We've both spent our time in the timber industry. We own an excavation company and always run across timber on jobs. I wish i had alot of it still that i cut up for firewood now. We have some vacation property that we're going to build a new shed on in the spring. My nephew needs a new woodshed, my boat house will be getting new siding. Theres a long list of stuff  to do with it.

I had a mobile Dimension mill before I bought my woodmizer, It was a lot of fun resurecting it and making lumber for the first time.(it was incomplete and in pieces when I bought it for $1200!) Some times I really miss the way that rig could throw chips! This picture is from the first day I ran it.

I can't say that I ever really used them to there full potential, I think you'd need a ladder just to drop the clutch in gear.  On another note be sure to wear a full face bucking shield when you run that thing, they don't just throw chips, small knots flung by the blades can cause real damage to soft flesh!
