Glad to see advertisers are starting  to pull out over the opening ceremony.  Forestryforum.com is getting  like Facebook.

21incher, I totally agree with you regarding the dispicable opening ceremony, but you do not personally know me.  You do not dare question my Christianity.

The opening ceremonies are still bothering me a couple days later, along with the Marie Antoinette thing.  The question must be asked, Why did they do it? knowing there would be huge backlash and sponsors are pulling out, and money is being lost as viewership drops.  So obviously, it was a specific decision by a foreign country to "trigger" a large portion of the rest of the world.  What else is new?

I am not a big watcher of the olympics, people can boycott the coverage all they want, I don't watch the big networks anyway, but I don't think "walking  out" is the correct thing to do, no more than I would have walked off the basketball court when another team got in my face and insulted our team.  If nothing it would have fired me up to kick tail and run the score up.

I support the USA athletes, it's not their fault what happened in the opening ceremonies, and to leave the USA athletes hanging may be exactly the plan.

Ultimately, the Olympics is a competition between nations and their athletes, so let's run up the medal count, win it all.  We are the best, let's prove it.

So now, I'm fired up, wanting to win everything, forgiveness is divine and but payback feels good.

There was some awesome competition last night with the swimming, diving, and gymnastics.  There has been some serious and dedicated training to perform such as they did.

It was exciting to watch last night's Men's Gymnastics team win a Medal.  No matter that it was Bronze, it was an Olympic Medal and they earned it.

The Olympic committee really needs to rethink how it's making the rules. When I grew up punching a woman in the head repeatedly was by no means glamorized but fiercely looked down upon. Now it gets you an Olympic medal.
Until that type of idiotic thinking changes it'll do nothing but crush dreams of people that trained harder than most can ever imagine. And most likely harder than the one that "wins".
I respect most of the athletes but choose not to support or watch an organization run in such a manner.

Magicman

It is alarming that the Olympic Committee would allow a "born male" that "identifies as female" to compete as a female.  I hope that all of the females will refuse to compete against him and kill that event.

Ain't right and nothing anyone can do to change it and make it right.

I truly enjoyed watching the swimming and acrobatic events yesterday.

Your right Lynn, it ain't right.
The best thing to happen is the Female to climb out of ring as a protest!
Which she did and more have to do.
Another gold for Canada's swimmer  Macintosh !

I watched a clip where an Italian lady was boxing against an opponent (I do not remember the country) who was a genetic (XY) male, lots of testosterone and such and she was beaten badly. I was surprised and disappointed the Olympics allowed this. Her opponent had evidently "identified" as female his whole life so they allowed it. Sad news for me.

Unless the IOC enforces an iron clad gender test, every sport and the Olympics in particular will see a decline in support.

What I really enjoy about the Olympics is that it used to be 'clean'. Amateur athletes from around the globe, competing on a level playing field. At least is seemed to be, back when I watched as a kid.

Until they get it back to that standard, we'll be witness to doping and gender scandals, unfortunately. There's such a high level of competition that some countries have completely lost sight of what the Olympics are all about. I have to add, Canada's soccer team spying on competitors is a shameful thing.

In the meantime, like Stephen said, Summer Macintosh wins a Gold plus sets a new Olympic record for Canada!

I do not mind doing away with the amateur status and different countries got around that by various techniques. Having a shooting team contestant whose day job was as a shooting instructor allowed him to shoot all day long. The same could be true for a weight lifter or gymnast whose day job was working at gym and allowed him to practice all day every day.

I am fine with the world's best athletes in the world competing against their contemporaries but men fighting women is not fair in many strength contests IMHO.

I enjoy watching the Olympics and as far as that scene during the opening with the Drag Queens somebody made a mountain out of a mole hillsmiley_thumbsdown on that. It was not even close to the Last Supper as far as I'm concerned and I am a devout Christian, it was a modeling runway with no food and looked like over 100 people lining the sides with people walking on it.
Anyway I was watching the archery comp. and those bows had more gimmy gaws on them then some of the catalogues my wife gets. I've used a bow for hunting and field archery competition, getting deer, ground hogs, wild boar and a few trophies and all my recurve bow had on it was an arrow rest, but I guess that's progress. At least they aren't using crossbows...yet.
Enjoy the rest of the Olympics.

As I was watching the track and field I was struck by something.  With all the high tech equipment, precise training schedules, and thought that goes into almost every aspect of the Olympic competition

The numbers are held on the uniforms with old fashioned safety pins!

And they don't even seem to make an effort to carefully place the pins.

There were some exciting events last evening because the competitors work so hard for excellence.  Then of course you may already know who would win because the events have already taken place.  No matter because their struggles and enthusiasm shows.

I watched some fabulous swimming with the US taking the Gold in the men 1500M freestyle and also the 100M dash with the US taking the first Gold since Carl Lewis 20 years ago.  The Beach Volleyball wasn't bad.   :wink_2:

I have one question though: Does anybody know what the 2x2x18" pieces of lumber are that they are giving all the medal winners at the ceremonies? I never caught the story on that.

The USA has done quite well on the last full day of Olympic competition.  I have watched us "Medal" in several Relays as well as men's Basketball today.

While I highly disagree with several of the IOC's decisions on what to allow, disallow, and there is still a controversy with one of our gymnast.  Even so most of our competitors have shown respect and sportsmanship while enduring disappointment and celebrating successes.  Most but sadly not all because there were still "kneeling" competitors that should have been stripped of their Medals.

I read:
38 Gold, 42 Silver, and 42 Bronze for a total of 122 Olympic Medals for the USA.
