New use for log splitter
« on: November 13, 2010, 08:24:28 PM »
Had to remove drive shaft from sawmill. Timberharvester 30HT.
It has 2 pillow block bearings on it.
First bearing gear puller worked ok because sleeve was cracked,
scored the shaft.
Second bearing was froze solid, tried all the tricks, needed a press.
Log splitter was sitting there: pipe over shaft, block at wedge,
instant gas powered bearing press.
Should be able to get new bearing Mon.
Have a spare shaft.

Anyone ever use their log splitter as a cider press? Got thinking and talking about that one the other day, while we were pressing cider "the old fashion way" (bicep powered)...

Gotta rig something up for next year...

I use mine to get a tire bead that is stuck on a rim every once in a while, I have a manual tire bead breaker that at times wont do the job, the splitter takes over and with a block of hardwood under the knife of the splitter gets her done.

Is that because of the tool or the tool's operator?  :D  :D  :D

I use the legs on my log truck for a press all the time but the idea of using my log splitter opens up a whole bunch of possibilities.
