To much curve for a boat may be bow and arrow.
Ships knees. I had to write about them in second grade.
Looks like they'd be good contenders for making 8x12's. lol

If you hold your mouth just right while you split the pith, you'll stand a good chance of those things straightening right out. 8) 8) 8)

Can't be my place,no rocks!!!! :D
Come on guy admit it if we could get it locked down on the mill we would try. LOL
The trick is not to lock it down but set up so it can pivot as you cut it. Rod
There you go Kbeitz a new project, a pivot for sawing semi circles!
Kbeitz that tree looks like the wood some people want me to run through the firewood processer .

For the life of me, I cant understand why they would grow like that.Regardless, they would make some of the coolest sheds and pergolas and front porch posts. We get some entertaining trees around here too, but a whole patch of them like this?? Not likely....
We don't get Atlantic hurricanes. ;D
Kbeitz yours almost looks like an Indian marker tree. Does it have scars on the part of it where you'd sit down. It looks like it has the point too.
Here's an article on it:

Here's a sample of a small area near us. Crooked Bush near Hafford, SK.

I'll let you google the history and science of it as I haven't spent any time with that part. Cindy took the children there one day while I was away on business and they said it was pretty different and interesting.
On my property near the building site.

That's what out family thinks it is...
Those trees really do not look like I would think that a 150-200 year old tree would look. ::) :P

ill have about 50 acres of that in 50 years or so after the ends of all my beautiful red maple "rainbows" die off and the first branch takes over as the leader!
