Last friday I took the horses from the barn to the field with the atv. Horses are attached to the bike by there leads. As I went across the culvert to get to the field I upset the bike , now that in itself was ok as I have a large canoe rack on the bike and did not seam to hurt myself the least little bit. I unhooked the horses sent them on there merry way to chomp on some grasses and I went on up the hill to the house to get my Sw48( a track sidewalk snow cleaner ) wich has a 9 ton winch to get the bike back up on its wheels. See I did not want to hurt myself pushing the bike back onto its wheels  ::)
Adrenaline has a way of hiding things from oneself as I never felt anything till night time .  :o  I did not sleep too well on friday night , saturday was able to move around some so we went and set up some deer blinds. saturday night was painfull , not very much sleep was had ... sunday took it mello, no sleep that night eather or very little. Come monday I called the docs office and had an appointment for 2 o'clock that afternoon. He gave me a prescription to be filled and wanted an xray of my left hip. Monday night around 3in da morning , I could not stand the pain no more , 8-9 on scale of 1/10 was painfull no position was og any releif, wife took me into the emergency ward of our local hospital an hour drive away.
Was seen by a cheerfull doc and she sent me for Xrays and gave me happy pills  :) Xrays came back with no apparent breaks in da bones. Doc the sends me to have a scan of my hip, by 9:30 am I was out of the scan and awaiting the results. More happy pills where brought to me  :)  At around 2:30 the doc calls us in and has the results , no break, no tumour but all points to a Trochanteric bursitis and he would like to do an infiltration.  :o   I do not like needles and so tell him that , more happy pils are given  :)  Wife tells me to take the cortison and to let the doc do what he beleives to be best for me. Ok , so I give in and get the shot  :o :o I don't do well with needles, and this one hurt like hell :D He had to ask me to please continue to breath as he was pushing that medicine into me, did I saye it hurt like hell....  ::)  Ya I am a wimp when it comes to needles  :-\
Yesterday was the first I slepted since saturday and today I had a nice long nap on da couch.  The pills and the infiltration have done there work and I feel so much better. I have been friends with a pair of crutches since my departure from the hospital and was advised to stay off my left foot for 48 hours so the cortison could do its job, I have and it is .
We left here at 3am and where back here at 2:30pm

I would  like to know for personal reason none other , how this would cost elsewheres ,

My cost was : hospital car parking 5$
food  while I waited , one needs to eat a little 15$
Prescription 18$ + 78$ and insurance will be sending us 80% of this
Gas to get there and back.

Marcel-

Diagnosing from afar can be risky, so take this for what it's worth.

Trochanteric bursitis is usually not something that immediately follows trauma.  We do not know why people get it, but it often occurs after prolonged sitting, lying on one side, and even weight gain like pregnancy.  X-rays are negative.  What type of scan did they do?  The fact that you needed crutches and were so painful would definitely make me think of a greater trochanteric fracture rather than a trochanteric bursitis.

Did they use a combination of novacaine (local anesthetic) with the cortisone in your injection?  Because if they did younshould have had immediate relief from the shot.  I mean the patients I have that are very painful with trochanteric bursitis think that I am a miracle worker five minutes after the shot.  It doesn't sound like you had a "miraculous" recovery from the injection.  It could be that they did not get the injection in the right location.  That happens as well.

There is absolutely no reason why a patient can't be weight-bearing with trochanteric bursitis or afterthe injection.  Actually holding your foot off the floor may increase the muscle forces across the hip.  I am glad you are better.  However, the particulars of your story do not jive with my experience with trochanteric bursitis.  This is a common problem and it usually is fairly uniform in its clinical presentation .  Go figure.  If the pain is gone, forget I said anything :)

Pain is gone since injection , he did not saye to keep foot off the floor , only that I do not put much weight on it for what I beleive to be 48 hrs . The miraculus fix .. did happen,( I still had some pain)  he still has me on anti-inflammatory pill. apo-napro/na ds 550mg
One thing that was not said , is that I have sporiasis and I will be seeing an artheritis specialist at the end of next month, that being said , the doc has asked me to go and have an MIR of my hip to see about the rumatism possibility. Now a lot of this is fusy some as I was on morphine at the hospital but most is as acurate as I remember  ;)
Translation also plays part in miss information on my part .  :-\

Sounds good to me.  As long as you got significant relief from the shot, you're golden.

You may have read in another thread that my wife had a heart attack a couple of months ago. So, her experience was quite a bit more drastic than your episode. (She had two stents put in due to blocked arteries. I think she was in the hospital for three days.)

There is no need to say 'unleaded regular gas'. It's all unleaded. Just say 'regular gas'. It's not the 70s anymore. (At least that's what my wife tells me.)

This part of the world that would be covered by Universal (and compulsory) Accident Insurance.

Parking at the local hospital is free.
$15 will get a decent lunch in the cafe.
Prescription meds are generally $3 per item for most any common medication.
Gas probably twice yours, but if you couldn't drive the ambulance ride would be covered.

Of course we complain about having to pay the Accident levy, but when you do get hurt, it's nice that it's there.

The scheme also covers visitors to NZ, but it also basically take away the ability to sue for injury. But the lawyers are generally the only ones that miss out there....

Asked Renée this morning about that shot I got in my butt, Xylocaine +cortison. Xylocaine would be in effect for 48 hrs and cortison for maybe 3 / 6 months. Was asked not to put too much strain on my hip for 48 hrs , as that is the time the Zylocaine would be in affect, and after this some pain could be felt.
Doc, the ER doc was really pleasent to deal with but in his deffence a lot of what he told me is still blurry  :-\ I had my wife (Renée ) in there with me she being a physio, she could talk with him and fully understand what he was trying to get me to understand.
You guys have a language of your own  :P  :)  Wich is fine with me, cause you do a fine job of taking care of us for the most part  ;D Only part of that conversation I got real clear was *injection* and * this is gonna hurt some *   :o :o

As I type this its been about 30 hrs since injection and all is good , I could walk if I wanted too with out the crutches but I am going to listen to my physio  ;)  I slepted like a baby last night, Renée asked me to take it easy again today so I will. Nothing around here needs my attention that bad.

Good to see your on the mend Marcel.

Ironic thread, I just got in out of the paddock after checking the stock, (1st day of the long weekend), I was standing on the quad looking backwoods and the front wheels hit a trench in the long grass the handle bars came round quick, twisted my wrists and some how hit my groin :( No sympathy from my wife, she wants the lawn mowed.
