Title: Sinus/Cold Infection
Post by: Autocar on February 28, 2012, 04:39:58 PM
Very unusual but I got up Friday morning with a sore throat leading into a sinus congestion and cough. Here its late Tuesday and I still don't feel up to snuff. I went to town this morning seeing a neighbor man standing at his outside wood burner stopped and here he called in sick sounded like the same symptoms, anyone else have the same thing ? For sure it has kicked my butt.

Yep, the sinus infection hit me.  ::)

Sounds like Z Pack is the way to go these days. I wasn't informed of this until returning from the doc.  ::) So now I'm stuck taking horse pills.

You would think having a girlfriend who just graduated from a nursing program would have told me before going.  :D

Hope everyone gets to feeling better.  :)

I have been struggling with plugged sinuses and a cough since before Christmas, two grand daughters are down for the count.  :( Is it the mild winter not killing the bugs or what?

sawguy21-

That's a long time.  I would suspect allergies.  Do you have a forced hot air heating system in your house?  They can spead all kinds of things into the air that you'll react to until spring.  I suggest opening the windows.

Doctorb yes we have forced air but at thirty degrees out side your going to press me pretty hard to open the windows let a loan a door  ;D Its ten days today but we did make it to church I was ok till the heat kicked on at church and it warmed up then I started caughing. I think we are both over the top with this bug I hope everyone else is on the mend also.

I have had the sinus infection also (sinusitus-rhinitus).  Not sure on the spelling.   One thing I have found that helps is some Ocean saline nasal spray.   Do three squeezes in each nostril then bend all the way over putting the head down by the knees.  Wait a few seconds then lift the head arching the back backwards looking up at the ceiling bending as far back as possible.  Repeat.   Blow nose lightly.  It keeps mine loosened up so I do not get those terrible sinus headaches.

There does seem to be something about getting salt water up the nose that does help.

When I used to surf during the winter I seldom got head colds, a good session in the surf gets a fair amount of sea water up into your sinuses, like you can have salt water dripping out for days, every time you tilt your head  :D

It also flushes out a lot of assorted mucous and crud that you didn't even know was there. Just seemed to keep things clean in the sinus department.

Ian.

I snort a mild salt/baking soda mixture in slightly warm water to clear my sinuses. Not overly pleasant but it works.
I had a prolonged sinus problem and could not get up without without dizziness, turned out the eustachion tube between my ear and throat was plugged. The so called specialist did not pick up on it. When that cleared the dizziness stopped but my hearing on that side was damaged.

I'm  with Doc on the allergies, around here most folks are sneezing and coughing. The air has been  extra dry this spring and because this is a farming region lots of farmers are burning rice and soybean fields. I'm particularly allergic to rice smoke, makes me dizzy plus sinus congestion. I sneezed all day yesterday and felt terrible last night. But this a.m., got up at 5:00 and ready to go at 6:00, the air is fresher and humidity increasing today and a Red Flag warning throughout the area, so no fires....and  no sneeze today

I'm right there with the rest of you.  I went to the club a few days ago and half of the people there were sick.  Why don't they stay home when they are sick?  I did not get close to any of them and only stayed a short time...but I got it anyway. I'm taking vitamin C and Cold and Flu BP but it dosn't seem to help.  This is day two.  Let's hope that day three is better.  Some of our family has it even worse.  This seems to be really wide spread.

I guess it is my turn for this cold/cough/sinus nasty bug. Friday my lungs hurt and my chest felt heavy. I thought I had inhaled too much dust being out in the field. By Saturday afternoon the sore throat, cough, runny nose, and general lousy feeling overtook me. Today I am still miserable. I tried a Zytrac (sp?) but it just made me shakey on top of the sore throat, cough, runny nose, etc, etc. All I want to do is sit and feel sorry for myself.  :-\

Maybe some beer would help.  ???

I am in the same boat also. I started getting a scratchy throat Saturday night, woke up Sunday with major sinus infection. My nose stopped up, my cheek bones and teeth hurt from all the pressure built up in my head. Made it through about half of church, would not have even tried except for being Easter. Got home after  church and slept all day.
Pressure is gone this morning, still have runny nose and feel like crap. Got to go to the field and make mulch cause no one else can. That is the part that sucks having a business that is just me and my wife, there are no sick days!

I got it too, all the way up here in BC, Canada... Wife has it, friend had it, it's going around like crazy... Starts with sore throat, then a bit of a stuffed nose, then the cough from fluid in the lungs leaked from sinuses... And that part lasts for going on two weeks now :p

Also had a couple odd-but-painful headaches in midst of all that, caused by sinuses :(

I have said it before and I'll say it again.  This stuff really helps me when I have a sinus colds/infections:  http://www.neilmed.com/usa/products.php.  This is the rinse I actually use:  http://www.neilmed.com/usa/sinusrinse.php.

Edit - BTW, Costco here in Manassas has a kit with 2 bottles and 50 packages of solution.
