Oak Wilt
« on: December 03, 2019, 11:42:13 AM »
Living in western Michigan I hear a lot about Oak Wilt. I have a large red oak on my 40 that was hit by lightning last summer. Will that be susceptible to Oak wilt with the damage it has?  Should I take it down in the spring before the leaves pop?  thanks

Yes, if you have oak wilt diagnosed nearby. Where in MI are you located?

Oak wilt hasn't been as bad on your part of the west side of the state like here on the east side, but if you do have a lot of oak wilt diagnosed in your nearby area, it will just be a matter of time that your oak tree may be affected due to its severe open wounds.

Best to check with your local Conservation District or Extension Forester for a local recommendation for your oak trees.
