I thought it might be vapor lock but temperature was not hot and only ran for a few minutes. Saw is not very old but out of warranty. After sitting a while it will restart.

I own this saw and have some experience with problems like this.

First, I suggest you recalibrate the Autotune chip on the saw. Have a log set up for cutting lengthwise. Start the saw and let it idle for at least one minute, maybe longer.  This puts the system into tuning mode.  Take the saw, rev it to full throttle and cut lengthwise on the log about an inch or two deep.  At some point you should hear the tune of the saw change as the chip dials in the proper adjustments.  If it doesn't change, then the saw was likely dialed in OK.  There is a youtube video of this where you can clearly hear the tuning change during cutting.

Type this into your browser and you will get a bunch of videos on the subject.

Hopefully that will fix your problems with the saw cutting out.  For a restart, I discovered that while the saw is warm you don't mess with anything.  No pressing the decomp valve or choking.  I use the behind the knee starting method.  Usually I give one good pull against full compression and the saw restarts.  I used to have to let the saw sit or pull like mad 10-15 times in a row to get it to start.

Hope this helps!

I will give the recalibration a shot. Someone else suggested that the coil could be failing.
Is there any way to test it?

You need an inline spark tester.  Run the saw until it cuts off. Quickly install the spark tester and check for spark.

This seems strange. I have a 562 and love it, never a lick of trouble. I don't know why but I have to put it up on high idle for restarts. Starts every time, so I don't think about it much. Every saw has quirks.  Bu this dying thing is weird. Can you give any more details? Maybe @Spike60 will weigh in with an opinion? All I know for my experience is that this saw has been rock solid for me. But there were some updates and changes from the original early runs. You say it's not old but out of warranty, can you give a better idea of just ow old it is? Year of manufacture maybe (it's on the tag), that might help. Maybe it's an early control module?

Its a 2020 and the symptoms seem to point to the coil; intermittent cutting out, restarting after sitting a while then repeat

A little late to the topic but Spike mentioned in another thread saws with the primer bulbs are susceptible to fuel issues due to a screen of some sort in the system getting plugged up with fine sawdust.  What he said made sense in that the primer forces fuel and subsequently any sawdust that may be in it through harder than a carburetor will draw.He went on to say there's a different fuel filter available that is finer and can help prevent the problem.

Wonder if you have some crud in the line between the filter and screen getting sucked against the screen causing it to quit then it floats back when sitting? I've had issues on equipment before with stuff half floating half not getting sucked against the outlet of the tank causing similar problems.

Hopefully you're back up and running already.

OH logger

Could be your fuel tank vent.  I've had lots of that issue with my 395's.  When it shuts off slowly open the gas cap and see if you hear a big sucking sound

On the subject I know exactlly zero about a so called auto tune and doubt I ever do .As far as actual vapor lock it might have happened on an old Homelite xl-12 but highly unlikely on a modern saw .It would not be uncommon to have a coil failure due to heat build up .

Sorry for the delay in responding.
It was the coil and a new OEM unit has fixed it.

For sure, I always appreciate the rest of the story with the mechanical (and in this case, electronic) gremlins.

Well in the interest of total honesty, I have to revise my reply number 5 above. Yesterday I was doing some firewood and tried to start out with my 562 on the bigger rounds, but try as I might I could not get it to run right. It started fairly easy, with maybe a couple of extra pulls, but it would not rev up, it would choke and falter. I let it warm up a bit then tried again but every time I pulled the throttle it would stumble and I could never get up enough rpms to even begin a cut. The it just stalled and would not restart. I just put it down and picked up the 350 and got to work. After about 15 minutes I went back and tried the 562 again. This time it started, I let it warm up, and then it took off as if there was never a problem at all. I ran it for 20 minutes without so much as a burp or hiccup. I have no idea what it was but it cleared itself.
