Sawed 2,474 board feet of Hemlock on Saturday.

Didn't go too bad, 4 off-bearers and not too many breaks.

About 2/3 2X6X12 and 1/3 1X random widths.

Two pine logs in the bunch, butt log 29" on the small end, bunch of 16" boards from that one!

Weather was right around 50-52°F.  Nice.

Judging from the truck load, Hemlock must be a good framing species. Nice days work.

WOW! Chuck, almost 2500ft in one day! What a great day!  It's intertesting that he wanted so many 2x6s. I think most people want more 2x4s and 2x8s. You must have been really tired, but happy.

Good showing Chuck, bet the old recliner feels good about now. What's in store for tomorrow, 3,000'?  :o :o
Since I retired I really like work: It fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours.

Chuck White

I was there about 10½ hours, so we didn't take much for breaks, and I checked the hour meter and it took 8.6 engine hours!

The customers are actually brothers, and they are going to build 2 pole barns and it will be strapped with 2x6's and covered with roofing steel.

The 1" boards are for enclosing an area in one of the pole barns to secure some of their tools!

That is the joy of portable sawmilling.  The customer fells, bucks, and skids the logs.  You show up and saw them.  They off load and haul them to the barn, etc. for drying.  Later they will use their own trees to build a building to be used and enjoyed for many years.

I love it.   :)

How many blades did you go through?

And did you make some good money on that job? by the hour or bdft?

I used 5 blades, the last one was still cutting good when finished, but it will be resharpened anyway.

It would have been only 4 blades, but I didn't disengage the clutch before backing up once.  :-[ :-\

This area (within 30 or so miles) doesn't get BIG dollars for sawing, the rates average from $150.00 to $175.00 per 1,000 board feet, but I do alright and my mill has been paid off for a while now!   ;)
