20" to 24" bar on 044

  I have had my 044 Stihl with 20" bar for 16+ years and its great but sometimes I wish the bar was a few inches longer especially since I now use the 261 for all the small stuff. How much power loss would I notice if I got a 24" bar for the 044?

Your 044 will run the cut nicely with a 24" bar without giving up to much compared to the 20. I've run an 044 set up that way in plenty of oak the 20" wouldn't have made the cut in one pass and it's a big time saver.

Keep it razor sharp and let the chips fly...

I run a 18",24" and 36" bar on my 044 and they run full chisel. You wont have problems. I love the saw and that's why I have bars for it in those lengths. Great power head and good balance. Tim

I have a 440 with a 24" and 36" bar skip link chain. I have noticed one thing, if it bogs down its time to sharpen the chain and stop pushing the saw into the log. I can't resist that for some reason. Mine also has performance muffler, carb looks like a mirror and my 2stroke guy got it screaming.

24" is my small bar on my 440.  It came with a 28" and I bought a 32".  It loves that 24"  I run an 18" on my 261, that gets all of my small work

I run a 24'' bar on my 44 and run a 20'' on my 361.The 44 will handle a 24''.

  First I'll say I did get a 24" bar and chain deal from Baileys and its been working fine. Second is that a solid titanium bar? The strength and weight would be sweet but the cost would be brutal.

  More like if it quits cutting while pushing on it sharpen the chain, it's hard to bog a 70cc saw with a dull chain.   Steve

GB used Ti in their alloy composition.

Ti alone would not have very good wear properties IMO.

Anybody know?  Stilh 24" bar and a Stilh 25" bar specs take a 84 drive link chain 3/8 .50.  It it assumed the adjuster will handle the different bar length same chain?

They are the same size bar in actuality.  Stihl calls it a 25" for some reason.

Yeah, 24 and 25 same length. Maybe used a different reference for the length or a metric/sae conversion rounding thing? At any rate, the terms are interchangeable and mean the same thing.

I do find it interesting that some bars of the same length use a different number of drive links such as 20 inch bars that use 72dl and 70dl, etc. So when buying chains, it's important to know what you need and not "guess".
