Several years ago I got to know a young forester. I (the land) wasn't really ready for a harvest but there were lots of improvements to be made. My large tract has only ever been a "woodlot" and owned for that purpose, we bought it from a logger and his ownership seemed to be pretty respectful to the land. It's got a good road system for any type of log truck to a handful of landings and lots of "secondary" trails that I've kept open in the past 18 years. Read More

Long time member, first time poster.... I have found myself in a bit of a pickle and Ive thrown a lot of money at a problem and still have yet to fix it. I have a 440b with the synchro shift transmission. When operating the skidder it does fine until you try to use 2 hydraulic functions at once, doesn't matter if it's steering and blade, brakes and blade, steering and brakes no matter which 2 it will completely lose function. It you use any of them individually it works completely fine. Here is a list of things I have done.Read More

I've had this bigtooth aspen snag slowly leaning out over a frequently used trail. The top was blown out in a storm in 2015 and it was probably deteriorating back then. Anyhow, there was nothing good about it. It was going to come down, and I needed to know when.
What would you have done differently?
