We've met several of the better looking FF family members through youtoob videos, so I thought I'd start a post!

Pabo is a Golden Doodle given to us 12+ years ago. We didn't like the name (it's Korean as is the original owner, and not family-friendly), so the kids started calling him Taco, or Nacho... and he's pretty much deaf now, so we don't call him at all! Been an amazing family pet, great with the kids, wonderful companion.



Dante is a Belgian Malinois we purchased from a local breeder 6 years ago. He selects a few from each litter to train into working dogs for the local police forces, and the flunkies he sells to schmucks like me. Heck of a dog... smart as your average 5 year old.

Can't  remember  the man's  name but one of my favorite  K-9s is Chip@ Hobby HDWDS. Chip seems to be the big draw his location.

I know that grumpy old guy on the YouTube and his dog Chip, or as many people call him "Mr. Chips".

I've seen that guy too. He doesn't strike me as grumpy, he strikes me as cheerful, way too cheerful in fact, it's almost degusting how cheerful he is that it nearly depresses me.
 Chip though is a fine handsome dog and carries himself well with a confident deportment. However, he is not making a lot of progress driving that forklift, he is probably contemplating if the boss gave him the right instructions for where that wood pack is going to land. He seems dubious.

I no longer have a pup, just two lazy and judgmental cats. But down at the mill there is a dog, he has had a rough time of it these last months after losing his partner and boss. I have been working on him and he is coming around and into his own very slowly. I will try to get a shot or two next time we work together.

  Here is Sampson. He is a Rat Terrier estimated to be about 8 years old. Pretty worthless as a hunting dog but he does love to bark at catfish (Won't bark at a bass or bream - only catfish). He loves to ride the ATV, boat and truck and his favorite activity is going to the local flea market with me to meet his doggy buddies and lady friends.

 This is Walt. He has more hours in a Ponsse Forwarder than most operators. He's not too crazy about hanging around the mill or the firewood processor these days, but he will patiently wait in the pickup all day. 

 Walt likes chocolate. M&M's, and Whoppers are his favorites. One day my son and I were out harvesting balsam boughs, and Walt was in the vehicle. Walt ate Silas' entire big bag of Whoppers. I was sure he'd get sick but he never did. 

 I know chocolate is supposed to be poisonous for dogs, but like many addicts Walt seems to struggle with considering long term consequences versus short term gratification.

 There is still a Ponsse BuffaloKing skidding wood in northern MN with Walt's name on the door. The new operator removed my name from the door immediately, but he said he just couldn't bring himself to remove Walt's🤷

Maya is my daily sidekick.  She is 1/2 Belgian Malinois and 1/2 German Shepperd, per a DNA test (she was a rescue from an animal shelter in Pender County, NC).




Below is some of the rest of the "rescue" crowd pictured with my wife at bedtime.  Clockwise from top left - Maya, in the middle is Scout (rescue from Navaho Indian Reservation in AZ - DNA test label him a "supermutt"), Envy in bottom right corner is a purebred Belgian Malinois rescue from Illinois.  We got Envy as a rescue with a compound fracture of the LR leg, and dislocated RR leg.  Laureen and her staff did the amputation and recovery.  Perkenji (aka Kenji) bottom left is a 1/2 Belgian Malinois, 1/2 Great Pyrenees rescue from the farm down the road.



Two other livestock dogs not pictured too - an elderly Great Pyrenees named Liberty and a middle aged Karakachan named Raya.

BM's are special dogs.....  We currently have one purebred and two "half-in-wah's" as I call them.  We placed 3 purebred shelter rescues last year and I had a purebred sidekick for 13 years before that.  Smart dogs but very intense.

Meet my best friend Riley. He is 1/2 Blue Heeler and half Border Collie. His favorite pass time is running through my 30 acres of wooded property. When I say run, I mean run. He never stops. So much that he has what looks like "cow paths" worn into the ground.  He also loves playing tug of war and fetching a tennis ball. He'll be 4 on Thanksgiving so he's still young. Hoping he'll start settling down with age.

I picked her up on Memorial day and SURPRISE July 4th she had 8 puppies.

Sox was the last puppy left and due to losing my first GSP AND a Lab during the puppies I decided to keep him.

I tell people GSP's are the most loyal dog I've had. No mater what people know that I am their person.

GSP's are the only bird dog breed that we have had and if I had it to do over again I'd hope that I would make the same decision. Not taking a swipe at others choices as I've had experience with most of the other breeds as well. The GSP from a reputable breeder and raised right is just the best most enjoyable experience for us.

Ours were both pets and bird hunters and excellent in both respects. They were friendly to strangers and guests but were also respectful to them. Both hunted extremely well and my only regret is not giving them more of what they loved to do! Wife and I miss them every day!

Edit: I used to work together with Maurice "Mo" Lindley here in Upstate SC training me to train our dogs! One of ours came from a breeder in Gainesville,GA. When training with Mo he had other trainers frequently at his place and one from TN but his name escapes me. He was a very nice fellow.

I say we have three dogs, but my wife disagrees. She claims the black dog is a cat of all things! Her inside dog is named Cinder. She's supposed to be a Chi-Poo. I call her a Chick-Poo. She's scared of her own shadow. This is Cinder playing keep away with her ball.



The other two are outside dogs. But they do get to come in when the temp falls below freezing. Of course that's not very often down here. The first one is Sam. She's a rescue dog. She looks like she's part Pit, but she's very timid and gentle. Hardly ever barks, unfortunately.



I don't seem to have a good photo of the black dog aka DaMew. I did find a photo of Sam and DaMew on one of our walks and another of them resting on a cold winter night.

RT, I am afraid I have to agree with your wife, that third dog is actually (technically) a cat. Sorry man.

Well we haven't had a dog for over ten years now. I have some emotional issues and could not stand the loss of another dog, I get too close to them. I won't get into it, but when our last gal passed on, I could not do it anymore. A few years later we wound up with a pair of cats, which I enjoy a lot. But I still of course do love a good intelligent dog. Now down at the mill we had Sadie for years and last year, Hercules joined her as a sidekick. He was just a big dopey GS pup and she was the alpha female. He followed her around like her puppy and they ruled the property, protected the chickens and the kids, any kids that were there, and had free range to keep on eye on the 80 acres. He took all his leads from her but he was twice her size in a few months.
 Back in July Sadie got sick and passed very quickly. Hercules was lost, just plain had no idea what to do with himself. It's been very sad to see, in fact it breaks my heart to see him constantly morose. The last few weeks he has finally been coming out of his funk. He actually comes out to greet me when I go by the house, and he has come down to the mill to make sure I am working during the day once in a while. I have worked as much as I can with him to make him feel good and try to get him "up and going". so when he greets me, it is gratifying.



You can see in the photo here, even though we just had a greeting and I gave him a couple of treats, his ears are flat and his tail is down. He has no confidence and this upsets me a lot. He gets a little better each week and each visit and Bill works with him a lot too, but it's very slow. He really misses Sadie and the direction she gave him.
 Anyway, he's not 'my dog' but I still worry about him and enjoy his company. He's big, he's dumb, he's strong, and he is certainly sweet. I am hoping we can bring him around. He's a good dog.

Well, she does have a kinda weird bark, and sometimes she likes to climb trees. But other than that she's a pretty good dog.

@Old Greenhorn Sorry for your loss. Dogs can be grieve like humans do. He'll probably come out of it. It's hard for them to loose a family member too. A new companion might help if it goes on too long.

We lost the best one we ever had a couple years ago. She was smart as a whip. We still miss her. We knew before before we got a new dog that we could never "replace" her. Each one is different.

This is my boy Duke. Really he's momma's boy. He loves riding in the Polaris and chillin out after a long day on the trails.
And his favorite snack is a tasty Red Jimmy.
He really hates them Red Jimmy's and will hide out all day waiting just to catch one!

growing up we had Brittney spaniels for bird hunting.  and blonde cocker spaniels for pets.  we had a lab named Norman Rockwell, and now 2 German Shepards named Winn dixie (passed), and now Lady Liberty born on the fourth of July and goes by Libby.  We have had 2 Shizue's but they are not really dogs.  Spaniels are hyper and labs relaxed.  GS in the middle.

    I love the cocker. I had one when I was about 16 named Bridgett. She was a great knock around buddy. She was white with golden/buff colored ears.

This is my Farm Dog, err Cat, "Spot".
Spot comes when I call, follows me around & loves to play on the stacked lumber. And also, She retrieves squirrels that I shoot!
Even though almost all white and stands out in the yard and woods, she is the best Farm cat I have ever known but acts like a dog. She must have some crossed species genes.

Here she is enjoying a scrap wood fire on a cool morning before firing up the mill.

Her name eluded us for a while .

Several years ago on a sawing job the customer's dog always crawled under the sawmill and slept there while I was sawing.  Maybe deaf or whatever but he did not mind the noise nor being covered with sawdust etc.  He would also follow the customer moving logs and got his foot under a tractor tire but he kept on just limping along and doing his sawmilling duties.

   Yesterday my customer's beagle "Sheba" followed his truck to the mill site and climbed on the logs, the slab pile, the stacked lumber and one time she even jumped up on the mill just as I was fixing to start sawing. She seemed to enjoy her visit with us. Sorry I did not get a picture of her but I was sawing.

    The last Springer Spaniel I saw was trained as a bomb detection dog and in use in the Green Zone in Bagdad Iraq in 2005 IIRC. It had a British handler and he said they preferred Springers because they were smaller than Shepherds and such, could tolerate the heat better and had a longer life expectancy/working life than bigger dogs.

    I watched that one searching a truck wanting to make a delivery inside the compound and every time the dog got to the side box it would come to a perfect point just like it had a covey of quail on the ground. It did that several times from different approaches with the same result. They finally checked the box and it was empty of explosives but at some point we were certain it had contained something the dog was trained to detect.

I have read about springers being bomb / police / military dogs overseas.
My first springer ( if my dad was still alive he might say it was his!, I know better ) I helped my dad pick out when I was 6 or so. Right now we have Millie, she is almost 4, Reacher will make #8 over my lifetime.

Of course, why the mystery??  A Coon has a sorta similar mask over it's eyes and is referred to as a bandit.

We just lost a cat a couple of months ago, Midnight. He and I were great pals for 19 years. We first met when we were at a Bible study, apparently the neighbors had some kittens. My two oldest daughters, who were probably 5 and 3 at the time, brought a kitten to their Mom. "ABSOLUTELY NOT!" she told them. So they came in the other room where I was, and just set the kitten on my chest. He went right to sleep, purring away. He went home with us that night😂

So Midnight could often be found on my chest, both of us conked out in the living room.

I could call him from anywhere, and he would immediately come running. He listened far better in that regard than the two Corgis we have!

Last fall when we got back from vacation, I noticed he was dropping weight. Then he started losing hair. I brought him to the vet, they diagnosed him with a large abdominal tumor. Keep him comfortable.

He made it about another week and a half, the last night I knew he didn't have much longer as he was really getting weak and wobbly. He still wanted to get up and lay on my lap though. That's what he did the last night, then he got down and went and laid on something in the entryway and died.

One heck of a good cat.

I know the feeling Barbender. My tom cat passed away at 16 end of summer. Raised him from a kitten, funny how a person gets attached to them furballs.
