I've come into more logs than I want to handle with my little trailer and parbuckling set up. How should handle hiring a knuckleboom truck? Any questions I need to ask the operator? How do they normally charge? By weight, mile, a flat fee? I was given a fella's number by a log buyer in my area and would like to know a little before I give him a call to talk turkey.
Thanks.
The one company that i went for a job interview got paid by the mile.
They were getting $2.80 a mile. That was before the fuel went high.
They were going to go up to $3.00 a mile.
I did not ask if that was loaded or not. I think that it would be loaded and empty.
Thanbks Alot Mr Mom.
The one truck in my area that I know of gets $150 per load.
Thanks, Guy's.
Mr.Mom,
The by the mile price, is that from my log pile to the destination, or does that include the trucks trip to and from his base of operation?
Ga-boy,
If I can find someone for that rate, I be doing the forestry Forum Boogy 8) 8)
In NH, I pay by the thousand board feet. It's generally $45 to $60 per thousand depending on distance and how much sorting has to be done while loading.
I suggest you make sure to get a Trip Ticket from the hauler. Then if there is any question you'll be more likely to be able to trace the load.
I think that was from the log landing to the mill.
Thanks Alot Mr Mom
The trucker I use charges 450.00 for truck and pup trailer and 225.00 for just the truck for hauls under 50 miles. He can haul 8-9 mbf or 20 full cords fully loaded.

The one trucker that I talked to said he charges $65 per thousand board feet, that make his loads $180-200 per load
These prices you guy's are giving me are encouraging. Hiring a truck will certainly save me several days worth of time over doing this by myself. I will call around to see what is being charged in this area.
I pay $60.00 / load plus $3.00 / loaded mile for triaxle, self-loading trucks.
Our pine hauled yesterday was 150/hour.
