I have tried with 1" and 2" with mix results.  When John bumps them, it's not good.



  

 

16d will pull out. So I'm going to try ¼x4" lags and 4x4.


  

  

 

I left out the bottom 2x to give more room.. Will see if this will work better.

Also had to replace a cable on John for the clutch to work, all good now.

Maybe you need a smaller John.   ;D  I know,a smaller John would not lift as much.
I know hardwood cost more,but would it hold up better. Too bad you don't have a bunch of metal kicking around. Than John would stop breaking,and start bending.  ;D

Try the GRK screws and lags they hold great and can be drivin with a cordless drill .
