Built my own stake pointer.
I have about $200 into it.
I landed some contracts for grade stakes.
It works good.
The i-beam horse is a strong base , no movement at all.
Should have used better materials,  but can always do it latter.

Looks great. Thought about a cover to drop over the cutter head?

Southside,
Yes I'm going to look for a piece of expanded metal to bend around it.

I'd think maybe just cover the top? I assume that throws some serious chips a full guard might plug up quick.
I like it as I am much handier at woodworking than metal working,

Bruno of NH

Stavebuyer,
I was thinking the same thing.
I have a couple of ideas.
It will chip up fast I would think.

Upside down 5 gallon pail with a slot in it for the shaft. The opening will be bigger than the bench so the chips will fall right out and you can pop it off to clean out a broken point.

I like it, Bruno. All you had to buy was the cutter I'm guessing.

I bought the cutter , cutter to shaft connecter , cord for the motor and paddle style safety switch.
A friend gave me the motor.
I ordered some lexan to make a shield for the cutter.

I'm going to make a lathe style chuck shield for the cutter head.

Don't get your scarf or neck tie in it!

trimguy

Looks good. Is there money in cutting stuff for stakes or is this to use up " scrap " ? Just curious, it's been awhile since I bought any stakes but I remember them being pretty inexpensive. Well, everything's gone up.

mike_belben

You can bend lexan with a torch or heat gun if i recall correctly looks good bruno

Mike,
I'm going to try and bend it with a heat gun over a form.
Trimguy,
I can't sell red oak for some reason. I turn that and low grade ash logs into stakes.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the cutter to shaft adapter?

My stand doesn't move a bit.
A company in NY makes them and the stand rocks and rolls  :D

I have been running the pointer all morning.
It's working great.
I'm glad I built it and saved some money.

I'm very surprised at how well it works.
The base doesn't move one bit.
I watch a u tube of one made by a company out of NY state,  the base of that thing looks like it will fall apart.
I slide 5' oak 1.25x1.25 in like butter .

Can't wait
Would very much like to see other setups.
When I build my safety cover it will get hooked up to a chip collector.

This is my Shop Smith, I don't think this was an OEM attachment.
