Does anyone have a year guesstimate on how old my 028 Woodboss is.  It has no chainbrake-it has the paddle but that's it, and rim sprocket that it not like current saws.  I've always wondered.

It doesn't give a range of years in the reprinted owners book I got from Stihl.  And while I'm asking when did they quit making them?

I think it came out about 1977-1978. Great saw for it's day. Stihl started offering chain brakes as an option on many saws about 1979-1980.

Rocky has it right.  Still have the receipt somewhere on my 028 -bought it in 1982 for $299, with a carrier, gallon of bar oil, and extra chain - they had a promotion that year. It has the chain brake.  Still got the saw too, and it still runs like heck!
