Got a large wild cherry log offered to me.  About 22" at small end and 14' long.  It is worth going to pick up and milling? ???

I would pick it up. Cherry is quite popular at least here in St. Louis. I think it would be worth your effort.

DR_BUCK,
I would definatley take it. I milled a "choke" cherry last
year a little bigger than that and got some very nice lumber from it. I posted pictures of it that I'm trying to re-post.
The post was from 5/21/03. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to this puter stuff ???

If it's worth cutting down a tree for, it's worth doing right

From an industry standpoint, all cherry is lumped together.  When you talk of wild cherry, do you mean black cherry or sweet cherry?

The sweet doesn't look quite as nice, but is still a good wood, as long as the tree is full of rot.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Buck: Recent issue of Woodshop News is listing cherry at 6.25 bd/ft.  I think it's worth getting, wouldn't ya say.  Cherry is one of my favorite woods to work with.  The smell alone is worth the time to build with it not to mention the beautiful patina the wood acquires over time.  Just don't go looking at any furniture in a store that is cherry as for some reason they like to put a walnut stain on most of it.  They might as well make their stuff out of poplar and not waste the cherry.

By all means get it milled.
Cherry is a very nice wood to work with.

Naw! it is not really all that good.  Gets lots of shake and dry rot in the middle.  Better just let me know where it is and I will despose of it in one of my hollers here on the farm. ;D

You can Bet your Bippy it's worth milling.  Don't listen to Arkansawyer,  he's just trying to get your tree......Dang ol' country lawyer/horse trader/dumb farmer type. ::)  He could probably teach a used car salesman a trick or two.  ;D  Don't listen to him.  Send it to me. I think there is still some room in the landfill down the road and they won't charge you too much to dispose of it.  If you mill it first the shipping probably won't cost you so much. ;D :D

Don't let them boys down south have it Dr Buck. They want to charge you a tipping fee for dumping it off. Bring it up here to Pa. We know a little about cherry here, and won't charge you a dime. Heck, we might even help you unload it.

I would think by Tom's and ARKANSAWYER's comments it surely is worth keeping. If you don't think so send it my way!! ;D ;D ;D   8) 8) 8)

I'm just getting so many offers of help with getting rid of that old cherry, it's mak'in my head spin.  :)

I guess the fairest thing to do is go ahead and keep it for myself. ;D ;D

It stinks when you saw it and may cause you to loose your supper.  Better re-think this as my offer has a time limit since it will only keep for a few years.  Tom's to far away so just forget him.  I am here to help.
