MD edger belts
« on: July 11, 2019, 12:04:15 PM »
Is anyone using banded edger belts? What modifications needed to be done if any and what is the part# of a banded belt?Seems like a solution to having 1 belt jumping the pulley and taking the other 5 along for the ride.I am hoping this is only a matter of getting a banded belt as I need to replace my set of 6 with about 30 seconds of run time on them

I'm not familiar with your edger,  but am familiar with belt driven equipment (hvac). There must be a reason why your belts are jumping. They should be all the same length, since manufacturers say they are all matched sets nowadays.  Pulley alignment or tension are about the only other things that determine how long belts run. Hope this helps.

Banded belts work better than singles when there is a long span between pulleys IF pulleys are in good shape and alignment is near perfect.  They are more sensitive to poor alignment and worn pulleys than single belts.
You may think that you can or may think you can't; either way, you are right.

The belts do a 90 degree twist from horizontal at the engine to vertical position on the edger shaft

In case anyone else is looking for the same answer MD says that there are models that were built for banded belts and they have different rollers and pulleys than the single belt setup.Does anyone have a model setup with banded belts and could describe the difference or better yet pics
