Shaper Spindle
« on: June 06, 2008, 09:42:20 PM »

Looking for one of the old "Make It Yourself " Shaper Spindles. The kind that was sold for folks to build their wood working shop machines. Can't remember the Company's name that made them, but, they were advertised in Mechanix Illustrated. ???

Harold
I have the whole kit of castings somewhere in my shop. You're welcome to them. I think it was AMT out of Royersford. Pa. and if my memory serves me correctly the spindle was 3/4".

There is a machinist in Guatuso I use Harold if you want one made. It is what I do.  Fast, very reasonably priced. In fact, the mortise rig for our drill press didn't fit when we first got it, it does now. Works really well too. So much so I have to buy more drills / chisels for it. Best sign of something working, you have to buy more consumables.
So, how did I end up here anyway?

This is all from memory Harold so don’t hold me to it.  That company you were talking about was named Gilman (spelling?).  They made a kit, I think for a shaper, tablesaw, and bandsaw.  I think the bandsaw was the most popular...I even sawed on one years ago.  I did a google to see what I could turn up and found nothing.  You might try a search on eBay to see what shows up.

 Thanks, Fred.

Gotta get up your hill, sometime soon, and get some arbolitos.  ;D

Just give me a heads up, you never know where I might be. The new finca in Amapola is said to have great fishing for Guapote. A river runs on one side that is said to be in serious need of attention - and comes out of the big national park.

By the way, regarding the Corteza, just got a message from MINAE, they are visiting the 18th. Man, I thought they had gone extinct or something...  :D

We should be able to start cutting a week later - I will let you know.
So, how did I end up here anyway?
