Table finish
« on: June 29, 2012, 02:02:59 AM »
I came across this table recently(at a small motel).  I believe it's made from Southern Yellow Pine.  It's assembled with a pneumatic stapler of some kind.  I like the style and the color.  The color doesn't have any red in it, but is a very neutral tone.  Any idea how to reproduce this finish?

Maybe a white pickling wash finish over another color used as a base ? ???

The last thing I made from pine I think I used just a single coat of light stain from Minwax.... looked very close to the same.

I reckon I'll have to experiment with scrap.

Waterborne finishes don't give the amber tone that oil/solvent-based finishes do. Super blond shellac will also leave it looking pretty natural but wouldn't be a good finish for a tabletop.

I think a WB poly would is a good finish for a natural-color tabletop.
