Newest Creation -Routed Pub Sign for Forestry Forum Member -Start to finish Pics

[Busy Beaver Lumber]

I was contacted by Forum Member jdtuddle to create a sign for his family bar. Here is the rough sketch that Jim emailed me. Got approval for this sign Friday afternoon and it was ready to ship Saturday Night.



 

After a review of the first image I emailed him, Jim requested a few changes to formatting, a request to add to sayings, and a request for a beer mug in the center as opposed to the shamrock. We also discussed some color ideas for the finishing step

After cutting to shape on bandsaw and some sanding, color is applied to the sign. Looks pretty bad now, but trust me it will look better real soon.



 

After some more sanding to remove unwanted paint and make sign very smooth, three coats of clear are applied. Here is the final product.

Wow Fred, can't wait!! Your turn around time is ridiculously great. Contacted you a couple days ago & should be here this week. For those that may be interested in the sayings. The one to the left is " A Hundred Thousand Welcomes" The other is " Never Behind" The Douglas Motto.

Jim I am very glad that you like it and thank you for the kind words about the fast turn around time.

I do this mostly at night and on the weekends. I can retire form my 55 hour a week full time job in a few years and then will be doing this and laser engraving full time. My goal then would be to offer same day shipping on signs and I am working a building paint drying oven to accelerate drying times to be able to offer that service.

It means so much more to produce a product for someone you know one at a time, rather than mass produce products where you never get to know the customers. I love seeing the customers reactions and knowing that you have made something special for them and their family. I can almost see the people sitting at the family bar you sent me a picture of and hear them commenting on the sign now. This is what I truly enjoy and live for.

Blame me all you want now, then you can thank me later. The CNC and laser engraver have opened up artistic avenues for me and talents I never knew I had in me. You are talking to a guy that has trouble making stick figures look anatomically correct. But give me a CAD program and a CNC or laser and stand back and watch me shine.

What I love most in life is a good challenge. Both these machines give me just that and certainly keep me from getting bored. Mrs. Beaver is the same way too.

You are only limited by your imagination. I try to push the window outside of my previous comfort zone just a bit on each project I do. In this project, the beer mug was a new creation for me, as was the cnc routed boarder around the sign and hand painting of the head on the beer. I figure if I learn something new every time I do it, some day I might get pretty good at it. 8)

thanks for the compliment. I still have lots of tricks up my sleeve. One of the things i am working on now is embedding small round or oval shaped mirrors into the designs. Also looking at ways to use the cnc to make laser engravable blanks for our new laser engraver. Some of the blank prices are insane for as little as there is to the item.

Fantastic job on the sign. The cedar goes so well with your designs and color choices for the fills. CNC is such a great addition to a workshop to allow creativity that is only limited by your imagination (and software !!).
