Hi everyone,

New guy here. I have a older stihl 020avp non electronic, non chain brake saw that a buddy gave me a while back and I was wondering if anyone knew what years stihl made these saws? I've searched online a bit but didn't find out too much. I've read maybe in the 1970's? I don't know.....

Any help or advise would be appreciated ,

Thanks,

Brett

Racelins08,welcome to the forum. Got the serial-model number? A Stihl dealer might be able to help you. I tried with my old Echo trimmer. Could not find nothing on it. Good luck.

The Stihl 020AV was introduced in the summer of 1971, I'm not sure about the "P" though.

The AVP was made from early 70's thru 76 if it has points. It's the same as an O20av.The "P" in the AVP stands for professional.I have 3 020 and1020AVP's.Good little saw.Don't take it apart if it's running. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
New saws don't have personalities until they're old

With the Mini Mac and Homelite super XL undoubtely the most miserable little saw ever made as far as user friendly to work on .

I've got one of those little sweethearts that needs a carb rebuild .The last time I did so it took me 45 minutes to figure out how to take it apart .They would have had to have stayed late at night to make it any more difficult. As it is it's enough to make a preacher cuss .I like most Stihls but will make that one the exception .The good news is if it's running correctly it's a good little cutter . ;D
