Around here the new trend for the McMansion set is to mount lights out in the yard facing the house. The house is all lit up all night for everyone to see. You'd have to pull down blinds to get any sleep at night.

I think Tom's on to something about the Linus security blanket thing. Lights are kind of false security to me. A 12 gauge works alot better.

I like the night. There's nothing like chasing after some blue tick hounds trailing a coon down through the woods in the dark.

We have a light at the back door that illuminates the track to the woodshed and vehicles outside as do our neighbors across the valley. It's easy to come in with an armload of something and look out hours later to see you left the porch lite on.
"I see you were chumming for bugs last night" has passed back and forth a couple of times  :D.
We did have one of the high watt security lites installed by a couple near the top of the hill. Not sure what happened to it but I'd buy that fellow another round  ;D.

One of our clients had the power co put up a light. I saw it and kindly explained that where it was it spoiled the view for people as far as 10 miles away, all the way up the river and the mountain beyond. I asked if they would put it on a switch. They checked with the power company, who refused  :-\. That just don't make sense. I suspect it'll become a target, I just hope they miss the house. Nope, they don't give me much of a sense of security either.

It is true that those bright lights just create shadows for the dastardly to hide. When will they learn. Joe
