Hey folks! I had a guy print a husqavarna w21 self propelled mower into my shop the other day for a carb cleaning... easy enough. However when I fired it up for its test run the bolt holding blade brake clutch system sheared and the blade fell off on the shop floor!!!
Anyone have any experience with these stupid things? Customer is low on funds and can't afford a whole new clutch system as they are almost $300 so I'm trying to haywire it back together for him. I've managed to replace the bolt but when I tried it out it decided to eat the friction plate in the clutch! Thinking about just welding it up so it's fixed and calling it good.

I was a small engine mechanic in my previous life, I don't recommend cobbling it together for safety and liability reasons. The blade won't stop when he releases the handle, if he gets hurt or does any damage you could be held liable. He can get a decent used mower for under $100.
Yeah, I know. I don't like it any more than you do. We went for years without all these gizmos that protected us from ourselves but lawyers have gotten fat and happy from litigation, people will sue for anything at the drop of a hat. I once disabled a blade brake on my own mower but nobody else used it, it was scrapped once no longer needed.

If that were MY mower I would just weld her up and be mindful that it isn't near as safe as it was before.  Take this and put it together with what sawguy21 said and carry on, bud.  ;)

Thanks guys, We said screw it and ordered a new clutch system... not before we tried welding it up but the clutch wasn't strong enough to take the constant torque and detonated! Lol at least we tried!
