Stihl 180c, Ideas on broken part of engine housing

First thanks for all the information I found lurking about.

I did some trading for two Stihl saws that "didn't" run and "wouldn't" run, had both up and running in a total of 30 minutes so lucky there. One is in my opinion a nice 180c, so far it has cut a good bit of wood. The problem is this, the part of the housing that holds the lever for the choke is not all there, the arrow points to where the break is.

 

 

   I can take the cover off the top, hold the choke down and get the saw running, put the cover back on and go. Getting it stopped means taking the cover back off to disconnect the spark plug. I have no idea how the previous owner could have broken this, but it is broken regardless. Maybe someone has an idea on a modification/fix to get it right or is it just going to be a new housing down the road?

Welcome. I'd take the 2 kill wires and attach to a computer power supply switch. You can cut a rectangle and seat in the orange cover.

Problem is that the choke handle will keep popping up making it hard to start. Lot of people use a tiny nail heated up to make two small holes and use safety wire to keep the lever from popping up.

Success!  I took a bin divider from an Akro bin and cut it into a small rectangle, drilled a hole the diameter of that lever & used a coping saw to cut to the edge.  Slid that in to place,  small sheet metal screw to the housing frame and it works.  Will pickup a small rocker switch for the kill function but push down on the choke lever did kill it too.
