Hi Gene,

I believe this group asked me to speak a couple years ago but I decided it was too far to drive. Who is giving the presentation regarding vacuum kilns this time?

The Keystone Kiln Drying Association will meet in Williamsport, PA on May 15, 2013. The meeting will start with a tour of our shop at Process Control Specialties. That will be followed by a tour of Danzer Veneer. Dennis Clay will speak about his unusual method of running conventional kilns and I will speak about vacuum kilns. Those who are interested in attending and are not a member of KKDA can PM me and we'll get you enrolled. You need to be a member to attend.
PS Lunch will be at the Eagle Rock Winery.  :)

I'm going to be a speaker at a workshop on vacuum drying that Dr. Brian Bond is organizing at Virginia Tech. I know that the cost of vacuum kilns is out of reach of most of you, but if you are interested, I'll get you in.

Gene,

What types of kiln operations would benefit most from this training?  High-heat, DH, solar, vacuum, softwood, hardwood, etc.?
07 TK B-20, Custom log arch, 20' trailer w/log loading arch, F350 flatbed dually dump.  Piggy-back forklift.  LS tractor w/FEL, Bobcat S250 w/grapple, Stihl 025C 16", Husky 372XP 24/30" bars, Grizzly 20" planer, Nyle L200M DH kiln.
If you call and my wife says, "He's sawin logs", I ain't snoring.

GeneWengert-WoodDoc

The emphasis will be on steam and DH drying of hardwoods, but we will cover pine (esp. EWP), and even solar.  (Many principles of drying apply to all three.  However, for example, discussion about controlling checking applies mainly to oak.  Discussion on color applies mainly to maple, ash and EWP.  Fungal blue stain control and warp control applies to all.  Etc.)  The agenda is given in an earlier posting.

Anybody know of any kiln classes coming up in the next couple of months I can recommend sending a couple of people to?  Specifically DH kilns.  This is training they need pretty badly.
