I didn't even consider trying to weld that broken shaft. Chucked  a bolt of sufficient size in the lathe and made a new shaft in just a few minutes. I did drill the hole for the roll pin about ¼ inch further out so i could turn the sprocket around backwards putting the hole outboard of the sprocket.
FWIW, the guide arm positively will not push a log over against the backstops  ;D

I stock those little pins, too. I had one come out in '08 when the mill was new, and another last fall. Couldn't find the five extra pins I bought in '08, so I bought five more.  :D I wonder if I'll remember what special hiding place I put them in next time.

Marty: Would you happen to have the part number or numbers for the chain that runs on that sprocket.
The entire chain including the tie link and clip, as a spare may not be a too luxurious spare part.
Thanks in advance, Gerald

Don't forget one can order parts from NY office, shipping might be faster and cheaper.

Thanks for all the help.  To wrap up this chapter, stick welding the shaft worked well, chucking the shaft in the drill press worked well to clean it up evenly, re-drilling the hole for the shear pin did not work well (broken off drill bits proved difficult impossible for me to drill out with a 1/8" drill bit).   I may make a spare by doing what David said earlier and tap the sprocket to put in a set screw or two.  But for now, the proper parts are on their way from Woodmizer. :)   It's supposed to be a rain out tomorrow, anyway.
