Is there any good books on asian timber framing. I am especially interested references discussing through splines.

Thanks,

Can't help you on the books - myabe try the Timber Framer's Guild for info.  I have never seen anything about splines in the "common" timber frame books by Chappell, Benson and Sobon, but nevertheless I will be using splines in my frame (actually more like free or loose tenons).

Unless I misunderstand the use of the term....   ???

I have found one reference so far. Issue 27 of Timber Framing has an article titled Joinery Decisisions. It mentions the use of splines.  I'm going to keep looking. They seem to be ideal for certain joints.

There's a little bit in the TF Guild's red book, "Timber Frame Joinery & Design Workbook"
