I need to make up a jig to saw short timbers and crotchs.  I'm thinking of making a plywood base with a 2x4 screwed to one side that is long enough to span my supports.  I'm sure others here have come up with good solutions.  Care to share some photos?

How short and wide? I don't have photos to share but have seen the method you described. You could also just add another support if you're handy like that.

The best idea I saw once on the forum was he used broken band blades and kerfed them in a wooden back stop. I believe he had a plywood platform also.
