The Lady Carver's father and one of his brothers, who lived on a neighboring farm, were southern boys (southern Wisconsin that is) who raised cane and cooked  sorghum, as they called it. My wife and her brothers still talk about the hours they spent "stripping" cane.

We used molasses when I was growing up.  I never cared for it.  I found out what the good stuff was when I met my wife-to-be and had an opportunity to sample the Hass family sorghum.  I'd like to make some, but the growing season here is a little too short here to grow the cane.
