Gents,

What have you found to be the best deck height for a manual mill without a log turner? In my case an LT15. I have a machine to load so that's not an issue.
I may build a winch claw turner like WM sells for the LT28 & 40 though.
I'm thinking 24" to the bunks - thoughts?

I'm thinking one's height may affect the desired height.
You mention LT28 & 40.  Can you use those machines for a basis for an answer for yourself?

24" is probably in the ballpark depending on how tall you are. Mine is 28" and I'm 6'3".  That seems to be the sweet spot for me to handle logs comfortably without bending down too much.

I would say if you're handling a lot of 24"+ logs, I'd likely aim closer to the 24" bunk height, but if you're mostly milling smaller logs, in the 18" and under, I'd aim for a bunk height closer to 30". Your height should also be considered, I'm 5'-8".

Hard to turn the big logs if you get the height too high.  Most logs are turned with you standing with your feet on the ground.

Thanks, I think I'll make some cross timbers and set up at 24" to bunks and adjust from there if needed.
