e-classic 2300 gasket, r.c. door
« on: December 29, 2010, 07:38:36 AM »
After 3 months with my eclassic 2300 I'm very happy but have a few concerns.

Has anyone had to replace the firebox door gasket? Is it a big deal? I left the door partially open one  day with a raging fire going and burned some gasket material on the top of the door. (my bad-won't do that again). Now I notice smoke coming of the top of the door for a minute after I close it. Seems to me it should be replaced.

My other concern is with the reaction chamber  door. The insulating material on the inside has a crack and flaked a bit. Rope gasket is still  in good shape. I'm wondering if this will get worse over time.

Thanks in advance. This is a great site!

The outer door shell is hollow and air filled, and it can get filled with smoke while the door is open.  I notice a small amount of smoke coming from the upper door area just after I close it, but it dissipates quickly without any further smoking.  As you do not have constant smoking from the door, I think that your gasket is still working OK.  I plan on changing my door gasket at the end of the heating season, barring any problem.

The liner on my RC door is warped a little, but I still have an excellent seal with the door.  I had no plans to do anything about it, unless someone here or from CB tells me to do so to prevent a future problem.  Doctorb

I changed mine at the begining of this season. It is very easy to do. It only takes about 20 min to do. Just make sure to clean the channel good before you put the adhesive on.

Same here, replaced mine this year because I did the same thing.  My continuously smoked from the section melted away.  It was about $50 for the seal and adhesive.  Insure you clean the entire channel and follow the easy instructions.  Also you will have at least an 18" piece left over.....great for a quick fix in case I do it again.
Also my door plate inside is now warped about 1/2" and I have heard its under warranty....will find out soon.

Reaction door plate was only warped about 1/8" over the past 2 years, now I am about 1/2' and this plate is not warrantied.  I think I will have one made locally from AR plate steel.

I have looked for local gaskets for the firebox door and haven't been able to locate what CB uses.  The adhesive and rope seals you can get locally.  If you can find Grainger or other catalog gasket numbers, please post here.....it will save money.

Just the inside plate on the rc door is warped not the door itself so I am not going to worry about. The actual fire box door is warped not just the inside plate on mine, going to replace on friday.

Thanks to everybody for all the great advice.
I think doctorb is right about the smoke inside the door hollow space. After watching closely today, I don't think I'm getting a ton of air into the firebox through the partially burned gasket. I would think proof of this is that once she's up to temp. and the fan shuts off,  I only get some wispy smoke from the stack for a couple of minutes and then nothing at all till the fan kicks on again. I would think if the gasket was letting a ton of air in I would have continuous smoke and my fire would never die down. I do think I'll replace it after the season though.

As for the r.c. door, I'll just wait and see how the insulating block holds up. No warping as of yet and seal looks tight.

Happy New Year
