Hi all,

Im looking to buy a larger planer and started to look at some off name chinese planers like the one below:

http://edawnmachinery.en.made-in-china.com/product/sKeEaudkLwcY/China-MB108-Model-Single-Side-Planer-Wood-Thicknesser.html

has anyone had any experience with these?

most likely doesn't run correctly.  I plan to get a phase converter for it if i go with this one.  Just want to make sure these are half decent before purchasing.

I believe you can have them build it with different motor for NA

Man oh man... I guess I'd take that money and find an older American made unit.  That old iron is hard to beat.  I'd be nervous about the whole thing I think.  Now, if this was offered in a store in the states and had company backup, I might consider it.

Don't even want to comment after fending off a Chinese attack on our mail server for 3 hours this morning.  I'll say they are making me extremely bitter with anything Chinese related.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised that we are getting probed so much recently because of the links some of you guys are posting to them.

Uh oh.  That's something that never occurred to me and I believe it's a very real possibility.
See, it's crap like this that ticks me off so much.  You let down your guard just a little bit and there's evil standing there, ready to pounce.  How the heck can anyone be happy in such a place?  I feel myself becoming more and more bitter, day by day...and I hate it.

A company wants to buy one of our kilns but they don't yet have the money. They were thinking about getting a Chinese vac kiln to run a couple years and asked me if I knew anything about them. I found a message from another company in the same boat. They had talked to a company who bought a Chinese kiln. They said it was OK for about 6 months and then it was nothing but rusted junk.

I can tell you by looking at our referral logs if some one comes to this website via a link from somewhere else. I can guarantee you that they look at their logs, and then probably target those areas that seemed to have interest. If they are unscrupulous, which clearly many are, then they may do what ever they can to garner more information.

This morning, they were trying to brute force their way into the mail server. Probably 2-300 times a second there was a new/failed login attempt. I noticed it when the forum pages were loading slow. Many times if you get slow loading pages, that is what it is.

This morning, as soon as I would ban one I.P., they would switch to another. We were getting both chinese and Korean I.P, hits. Eventually they must have decided to aim their attempts elsewhere as they stopped, only after my wasting another 3 hours of my day on a day I feel like crap from a flu shot two days ago.

I've got some Asian Iron...with an American name.
I'm nervous enough about that, but at least it's a company who wants to protect their name.

If it was something I can't pronounce, I'd be wary indeed.

If we had more Old American Iron up here, I'd be going that route.

Get all the details first. You can order the electrical system to be US/Canadian standard voltages but the electrical components may not be UL/CSA listed.
Also these manufacturers usually ship only to the port of your choice, it's up to you to retrieve it from the port so figure that expense into your budget.
Ask if they have a local (to you) service agent that they have used. If so call them and ask questions about parts availability and speed of service.
A couple of things I have seen firsthand is short electric motor life, very poor welds,  poor fit & finish and not OSHA compliant construction. This comment is not aimed at the unit or company you are looking at but just a generalized observation of Chinese machinery shipped here by Chinese owned factories.

I'd be afraid to buy anything Chinese.  Anything Ive ever had from that part of the world is inferior in quality.  for the same $$$ and a little time, you can buy a far superior planer on Craigslist.  Just my humble opinion.

I would not even consider it. Its not a copy of any old iron, it appears to just be a stretched out version of a narrower planer, and that is not how that works.

It only weighs 1400 Lbs. Not enough for a 32" planer by far. For example my 20" SCM weighs 2000 pounds. Adding another 12" to the cutterhead would require a much larger head to avoid flex, and much larger everything else to hold the larger head, and that one is just too light. A Buss 36" planer weighs in at 9500 pounds, so you see the problem.

I not only think it will break, but have to question the safety of a wide planer that is that light.

Parts? Forget about it. There is not one soul in China that gives a *DanG about you and your problems other than selling you a piece of junk. There is no service after the sale. None.

By the time you get that to your door, figure about double. For that much you can buy a known planer that will have some resale value down the road. Lets see, at $200 bucks a ton the resale value of that planer is $140.

Thought about a wide belt? Another possibility, and again you do not want a Chinese WB sander, or at least not one that is not supported by an American interest. Timesavers has a Chinese sander that does fairly well, and they support it.
