Thak you for the 2,3 litres of tears I´ve let on my keyboard lauging at your storys. The "Ant story" takes first price (^_____^)

And thanks for all the good advises I´ve got here.

id like to change my vote to 'gee, cant remember' from 'stumbled on'. your polling system seemed to defeat my 'back' button, jeff.

i think i found this place looking for info from kasco mill owners, cant remember. anyway, larry and everyone spoke right up, and ive been home ever since 8)

Forestry forum, is something that would never have appealed to me. By name, I never would have been interested.

Having been in the log recovery, and trying to find a way to make the money from the logs, and wanting to find an economical way to saw the logs, I was wandering around at the "other" place.

Someone, could have been Tom, mentioned this place, and when I crawled up and peeked over the fence, I found what I was looking for, over here.

What a grand trip it has been. I feel very fortunate to have found what is available here, and mention it often, to anyone that shows an interest in wood.  Dere, how's dat, Chet ;D ;D

I heard about it from the other site.

Jeff   maybe your answer should be "just got lucky and stumbled upon" ;)

I didn't get an actual link from another site, but I've heard this forum mentioned here and there on other forums where I participate. Logging is not a big interest of mine but I enjoy reading about most anything related to chainsaws and/or working outdoors. I mostly check out the chainsaw forum but I've found lots of funny and enjoyable reading here in the General forum.

From over THERE, to over HERE!  Started over there tryin to learn about siding and yellow poplar.  When they had the uproar about non professionals I realized I was through over there.  Lurked around awhile and one day everything was Yooperized!  I just couldn't stand it no longer!!!!

Someone, probably Jeff, gave me a card at the Woodmizer 20th party.  By the time I wandered over to the vendor booths they were beginning to tear down.  Whoever gave me the card was obviously tired after a long day and was not really talkative - mebbee it wasn't Jeff.  Anyway I checked out the URL a week or so late and have been here ever since.  Great place, great advice, great knowledge and really great people.

Well I already mentioned this, but I will give a little more detail.

Was searching Google one night for some information. Because I was already on some other forums.  I just decided to see what would come up when I typed in 'Forestry Forum' .  I got several messages about past or upcoming seminars (forums). A couple pages later a topic appeared and a url to this site.

Proceeded to - read only - for the next six months, was amazed at the maturity and family-like atmosphere.

Been enjoying this site since.

Bibbyman and I were running a thread over at Doc's place.
I had sent Bib a photo through email of an ugly log.
Within minutes Bib had sent a message back asking if I would mind him posting the photo on another forum. The next day I checked the link Bib had sent me, and someone (maybe Tom) had told Bib to "get him over here"

I added the link to my favorites, Sawmills and Milling.

About two months later I stumbled accross the entire Forestry Forum :o
Title: Now ask the important question: Why you stayed
Post by: oldsaw on March 28, 2004, 06:35:38 AM
I was looking for information about milling, on the cheap, and fell into this bunch of misfits.  Haven't been able to leave.  This has got to be the best forum site I hit, or ever have for that matter.  A lot of you guys are beginning to feel like family, even if I haven't met you.

If it weren't for the FF, I would never have bought the small whack of "bad luck maple" from Electric Al, or have a guy like Sawwood ready to go out and get in trouble in the woods (when the weather finally agrees...rain again this weekend, but he was ready), or met JR (the resident "lurker"), I've talked to Larry Copas and Bro. Noble on the phone, but haven't got together with them yet, both were unbelievably nice people (Larry had no idea who I was when I first called, but must have figured since I was from the FF and knew Sawwood I must be okay).  And there is more to come...that's for sure.

Jeff, go ahead and pat yourself on the back, just don't throw your shoulder out of joint doing it.  That hurts.  I'm sure a few dozen of us would like to do it, but we are too far away. ;D

I was over on the other site and found a link in a thread about cutting down some trees near powerlines . I have been here ever since . I have met alot of good people here  some in person , some by phone and some just on here .

Like Stephen Wiley said about the family atmosphere and maturity . Someone can ask questions and not get blasted cause they're not a professional . ::)   Maybe some of those people forgot that the had to start some where also before they got to the so called  professional level .

Keep up the great work Jeff   and everyone else cause I think this is the best site going  .  :)

Jeff made an appearance one day and told me to give it up and come over here, so I did.  :D

Bro Noble and someone else, can't remember who, sent me

Yep, Fab......

You found out that American is spoken a lot of ways and isn't necessarily all pure English.  (As in Y'all and Y'se guys)

We found out that South American isn't just Spanish and that Portugese is a language of its own. :P

Pretty cool, huh?  :D

Trapper (remember him?) sent me to the FF.

Well,  it was a round about way.  He was posting over on the "other forum" all kinds of stuff that needed to be rebutted.  Then Tom gets into the dowg fight with some stuff about "My mill's bigger than your mill."  My reply was that I didn't buy my mill by the pound.  Tom later e-mailed me directly and we've lived happily ever after.  One of his early e-mails,  he led me onto the FF.

So...Thanks Trapper!  You never know what might grow out of a pile of manure.  ::)

And thanks Tom for the seed.

I, too, found this site through Tom's link on WoodWeb. One of the many, many things I like about The ForestryForum, is that I can say "WoodWeb" on here without being castigated(No, Duh-Duane, read it again) or deleted.

Fab, I'm glad Jeff encouraged you to stick around. Your input has given us a glimpse of forestry in another part of the world. You are the sole representative of an entire continent on this forum! :) :)  You shouldn't worry about your English, nor J-T about his typing. We all understand what you are saying, and that's the important thing. Heck, Pender is a english teacher, and he misses a lick, now and then, himself. :D :D

Welcome in, Dancan! 8)  I'm glad you made the leap from "lurker" to poster. Half the fun is tossing comments back and forth. Never pass up a topic just because it doesn't look interesting to you. It can change subjects in the middle, and you can miss a lot, if you don't check. ;)
