Chipper

I hope this is an appropriate question for this group.

We have a Yanmar 336D (33 HP) tractor and live on 10 acres - about 8 of which are wooded.  We have a ton of cedar trees that have reached their maturity and are being overtaken by the hardwoods.  With the last few winters, they have literally fallen over in the woods to the point you can't even walk through the tangled cedar trees.  We now want to clear them out and chip them so that the hardwoods can prosper.

We want to cut up the cedars and underbrush and chip them.  We figure that cedars over 6 inches, we will keep for campfire.  Our question is which PTO chipper is appropriate for the job while having the restriction of a 33HP Diesel.  

We are looking for a quality PTO Chipper that won't break the bank.  We appreciate anyones feedback.

If you're not dead set on pto power...i have rented from local rental yards before. The one I used was a vermeer and it was 125 bucks a day and was worth every last penny. If you had the trees ready for chipping you could rent it for a few days and probably save a few bones

I have a jinma china made 3pt hitch chipper on my JD950 around 30 hp. It chips easy up to about 4 inch diameter. I also chip up my slabwood. Been using it 4 years now and coming to the end of my clearing and cleaning up. If I had a lot more to do I would buy the woodmax myself. The one with the duel hydraulic feed rollers. The feed rate is fully adjustable depending on the load. very important. Mine has one feed roll fixed speed and does not pull in the smaller stuff very well The cedar branches are very bad. I wish I had seen the woodmax before I bought the jinma. The woodmax is about $1000 more but really a much better machine. Renting is ok for occasional but it sounds like a longer term project so I would buy, I like to clean up as I cut myself. Where in CNY are you? I'm originally from Dryden myself.  Jack
