Wanted: Circle Sawmill
« on: May 05, 2012, 03:39:14 AM »
Hello All,
I am new to the forum and have already learned some valuable information.  Thanks!  I have on numerous occasions helped run a 01 Frick at my home town farm show.  I am interested in finding a similar Frick or comparable mill.  I would like a 00 Frick size mill, but will consider other.  I am in hopes that you guys know of or can help me find one in the South Eastern US.  I have found numerous in the NE and SW but none close.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Try a google search and Craigslist .  I called a man in SC the other day that had one for sale , a frick sawmill and a edger, all I wanted was the edger but he wouldn't separate them,   in Edenton.  Oh and welcome, you have found the right place for help.

Charles welcome, you realize your about to enter a life changing endever. There are more old mills around than you think.I live west of Boston in a suburban yuppie stroon field and their were mills within walking distance of my diggins. If you have a sawsmith anywhere near, ask him, they know where all the mills are and their status.Ask around old farmers, old hunters keep you eyes peeled some places just look mille, sawdust and slab piles give them away.Local sawyers all know, but some aren't too interested about competition. Good luck. Frank C.

Charles, welcome aboard. Have you tried Sawmill Exchange? I used to frequent that site quite often when I was looking for a mill.

I have a friend over in Walhalla SC. We went up and stayed a long weekend there back in '06. While we were there Ed took me to about five different sawmills in the area, all of them circular mills. The old mills are still out there, a lot of them still working.

I found my mill by just striking up a conversation with some oldtimers at a engine and tractor show. We left the show, drove about seven miles to where it was stored in barn, and struck a deal.

Good luck with your quest.

Fellows, Thanks for all the help!  I have found several in my area and will be travelling this weekend to look at few.  I am a young fellow (35) and that has been around antique farming equipment all my life.  I have several old tractors that I have resorted to include: a 36' B John Deere, 35' F30 Widetrack Farmall, 48' MT John Deere, and a 48' Massey Harris 44.  I also help put on an antique farm show Labor day week end in my home town of Dacusville, SC.  I invite all of you guys down.  I would love to show off our 00 Frick that we use and operate every show, powered by a 1925 upright twin 120 hp diesel Fairbanks Morse engine.  We also have an operational veneer mill powered by a 60 hp Fairbanks Morse diesel.

It is raining here today, should be sunny tomorrow, I'll get some pictures of the veneer mill and pull my restored tractors out for a photo or two also.

I really do appreciate all of you guys information and help.

Charles.
If they are in your gallery ( I see them and they look great), then go to your gallery by clicking on the "Click here to add Photos to post" button under the posting window (go to your last post and click on modify). Then click on the pic you want, and when it enlarges, just scroll down below it aways until you come to the posting instructions there (includes a blue button to click and then answer the question "yes"). You will know it is in your post when you click "Preview" and see it.

Give it a shot. :)
