With a skip tooth cutter .what would be the maximum length bar you would recommend for a Makita 6401 chainsaw at 60cc.

24", 28" or 32"

Thanks,
Tom

Well it should pull a 24" chain OK with full comp. chain

It will pull the other bars OK with skip chain, but it really depends what you want to do. The saw is nicely balanced with a 24" bar, but the longer bars make it nose heavy. I would only run them if I needed to. I have a Dolmar 7900, basically the same saw with 79cc piston, with a 28" bar. Cuts fine with full comp chain, but it's balance is nose down when you hold onto the top handle. Not a big deal, and I need that length bar for the trees we cut.

I would suggest you run with a 20-24" full comp and use that 95% of the time, and maybe have a 32" bar and skip chain if you really need it.
