Title: What's a good price and brand for increment borers?
Post by: mdvaden on December 21, 2006, 11:58:32 PM
I've never owned an increment borer, but may buy one in the next year or two.

Any suggestions for price or quality?

Haglof is good. Check Bailey's (sponsor here and can click on them in the left column here). A good place to start. You'll need to decide on the length of core you want to extract.

I checked out Bailey's.

I'd want at least their 16" unit - about $199.

The name "Haglof" in a Google search, also showed a few more sites. Bailey's was less, at least for the 16" - their max.

The other site had longer to 20", but the prices skyrocket every extra couple of inches, up to $400.

SUUNTO is another brand, but more expensive. About $20 more i think. Deakin's in Vancouver is the same price as Bailey's. I would go with Bailey's since your in the US, and they are sponsers. I don't know the price locally at BAP Equipment, they don't list on their website. Also there is Forestree brand.
