Poplar Tie Beam

I am doing a small Timber Frame barn for my tractor, 12x30
I have located enough White Pine for my post and top plates however I am having trouble finding any long enough for the
Tie Beams. I am thinking now about other species for the Tie Beam. Wondering on your guys thoughts on using Tulip Poplar for this application? Inside the post the beam will be 12ft long and 8x10 dimensions, any other species recommendations is appreciated, 
Sawyer/Woodworker/Timber Harvester
Woodmizer LT70 Super Wide, Nyle L53 and 200 kiln, too many other machines to list.

Poplar tends to open up a large check as a timber as it dries, more so than red oak which would be another option. That isn't a hard size white pine to find.

Yeah I figured the checking might be an issue,
That may be easy for you to find but not us here in Northeast TN, the loggers don't cut pine here ever,
