Funny you should say that.  No jumping involved but I did have one born in the mill shed last winter when it was the only dry place on the farm and it had lights given it was happening in a rain storm at 3:00 AM.

Brandi,
Piddling in the wind aside,  don't do much let your retina surgery heal!  Glad you got it fixed.

Take care of yourself Brandi, there will still be lots of work for you to do when you heal up and having adequate eyesight is important. I really do admire your work ethic , you are one hard working gal.

Brandi,

In response to comments and innuendos from several of our esteemed FF members who are obviously lacking in couth and the normally accepted basic social graces, please accept my deepest and most sincere apology. No doubt it was "a slight carelessness in their upbringing." ;)

Anyway, glad you're on the mend. Follow the your doctor's instructions and get well soon. I had cataract surgery in January and it amazing what they can do these days.

I hates it when loose lasers start flopping around. . .
Bindian; it took a few weeks before I felt 'normal but altered' after my laser retina re-attach.  I've been in two bush plaNE crashes, broken my back and cracked a hip to give stem cells to my cancer afflicted brother. That laser in the eye was worse than any of that.
It felt like someone was boiling an egg in a microwave, while it was in my head. But that's over now, and you should take the time to chill out and give it a good long while to heal up.
It'll be worth the wait.

Yeah, me too. But then I thought "Well maybe he has dirt floors in his barn" and that made it OK in my head.

This cherry needed to come down after the derecho last year. Got some good slabs. Wish I had more time, a lot of nice trees have to still come down because of the storm.

What I'd like to ask, to prevent it from happing to others, is how did you get a laser shot in your eye?

I have a question for all you cherry miller's out there. How do you pick the cherries on those trees that have 60' canopies? Our here in Oregon our cherry trees don't look like that. We grow big evergreens and even big deciduous evergreens but not cherries like that. Ours have a silvery bark and get to 30'ish on a big one.

Speaking only for myself, the vast majority of the cherry we cut and mill is black cherry, also known as wild cherry or bird cherry. The seed is almost completely stone and it requires much patience and tedious work to make anything out of them. I've heard of people making jellies, from the juice, but have never seen it done.
All that to say, picking cherries is not an issue. Wild cherry is a fence row tree around here.

Sawed a hollow red oak for live edge river table slabs this morning.  32" on the big end, so a perfect fit for my mill.  Some of my customers wouldn't cross the street for a good grade log. :D

After I slabbed it, I put the log back together in the boule to make it easy to match the half slabs that fell apart.

I'm thinking I should charge extra for hole sawing, I mean it takes lots of experience and skill to saw the perfect hole! :)  I keep thinking its gonna take $1,000 of resin to fill the hole.

Jim,
Thanks for your question.  I reread my original post and "see" the confusion.  Last Saturday,  I had shooting lights in my right eye's peripheral vision.  It was all over the top, bottom, and side of my eye.  I knew I had a problem as Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas, with his eye patch, stated on TV that shooting light is dangerous, as your retina can detach and can loose vision in that eye.  Sunday, I had a few shoots of light, but not many.  I did have lots and lots of floaters in that eye.  Monday, I got into see my eye doctor, who said I had a tear (really a hole) in my retina and referred me to a specialist.  After making my appointment with Retina Consultants of Texas for Wednesday, I got food poisoning.  So no one shot my eye by accident with a laser.  It was on purpose and really painless.
I wasn't without pain, because I was just flat wore out, especially getting out in the heat.  I get exhausted just putting on my clothes.
Oh yeah............I still have floaters in my eye, but hardly any streaks of light.  All that may go away, or stay.
             hugs, Brandi

Thanks for the explanations and our sincere hopes for a speedy and complete recovery. I am sure glad to find it was not caused by the laser on the mill. :D

It was on purpose and really painless.

That's interesting.
My eye doctor found a slight tear/detachment in my left eye about 35 years ago.
He happened to be a retina specialist and scheduled me for Laser surgery the next day.
What I remember is the most intense pain I have ever felt, I have said it felt like a red hot nail being shoved through my eye.
I've had 2 shoulder surgeries and the closest pain is when my rotator cuff tore, That woke me up in the middle of the night.
I'm glad the technology for doing it has improved that much.
As I recall my tear was related to my high myopia (nearsightedness) and I am at high risk for that type of problem.
I see a ophthalmologist ever year just to make sure nothing is going wrong. I like it when I get told there are no changes.
Be Careful.

Yes, it is amazing how far we have come with technology.  There wasn't any pain, but a bright light.  Only pain was from the surgeon moving my head around and me sitting in that uncomfortable chair.  They need to talk to my dentist.  I can sleep in his chairs.
