Hard too say.. Prolly not.. Gotta check out the usual things.. I have seen many 440's ranging from 5000 to 25000 dollars.. When my dad bought mine in '94 he paid $5500 for it and it came with a complete extra "Parts" Skidder, plus boxes of new parts (Seals, Gaskets, Nuts/Bolts, Misc Parts)

Since you said it's in "decent shape", I'd seriously consider it. I doubt you'll find a really good small machine with "like new" tires and everything else in very good order for that price. There will be some kind of problem somewhere, albeit, fixable.

We are seeing the small skidder market come alive. Prices for machines in good to pretty good shape are (and have been) rising due to demand from small-time and occasional operators, not to mention those who need small machines due to terrain, density, or impact concerns.

Specialty manufacturers like Awassos and OxTrac have been unable to price within the small skidder market.

Another benefit of the smaller machines is that they are not loaded with complex electronics; And, generally, everyone knows the frustration associated with electronics problems. In example, a half-million dollar machine sitting idle because an overpriced, (and faulty) temperature sensor malfunctions and shuts everything down.

If you've found a pretty good machine, sized right for your use, and it's been reasonably cared for... don't pinch pennys. Buy it and move on.

Happy trails.

i have to decide either that or a prehauler ??? i would use the 440 and keep my treefarmer as a backup or vice-versa. i like how small it is. i believe is a bit smaller than my c5 and it has 90% tires all around

Around here $7G it would be sold before it came up for sale!!!! I know there is some areas that skidders do not bring much money. Check its condition out carfully.
You may check out but you will never leave

Mines on the Dash and its a Syncro-Range.. I know them by shifters.

The weak points.. weakest link on mine has been u-joints (4045T puts out a bit more power than factory), many are known to have turning issues (front cylinder bracket breaks), Have issues with stripping the gears off the axle shaft from planetary to hub.. Alot of it depends on how it operated, treated, an maintained..
