i am getting to think red oak trees have explosives in them. no wonder why some rough necks around here stump jump heavy leaning trees on these hill sides. at least you will know exactly when to say fire in the hole.

I got a good deal on an exercise machine at an auction the end of June, while taking it apart to move it home a piece fell and hit the side of my face breaking a bone between my eye and ear.  It pinched the muscle that operates the jaw.  I had surgery to correct it a couple days later.  I'll always have a dent in my face  :)  It could have been much worse.  It could have struck my temple, broke my jaw or eye socket or took out my eye.  That was my close call for 2013.  I'm staying home for the rest of the ear  ;) :D ;D

Sounds like it turned out not to be such a good deal.  ;)  Stories like these are the reason I don't exercise.  ;D

I don't know about the rest of you guys but I have noticed how when I have a close call I forget to mention it to the wife.

This past year was a safer one for me, even though I started logging and clearing as a full-time job in August. As best as I can recall, I only had two "surprises". The first one was cutting a big pine off it's rootball. Got all the way through and the freed trunk moved back at me, pinning my right hand between the upper part of the handle and the chain brake lever. I was stuck there for a couple of minutes until I dug out enough dirt under the saw with one of my wedges to get enough clearance to wiggle my hand out. Second one was a four foot piece of a dead limb that fell out of a tree onto my head. Luckily I had my helmet on, because it struck the front of the brim and grazed my lower lip on the way down. Felt like I'd been punched in the mouth for about half an hour afterwards.
On a side note, I got T-Boned in my truck on New Years Eve day 2012, but that's a different year.
Be careful out there, because Murphy is alive and well. Safety never takes a holiday. ;)
