I wuz standin around at the shop a while ago, watchin the rain, and I thought a flash of lightning went off. ::)
Turns out I MAY have had a "vision" :o ??? Let me run these questions by Y'all and see if my "vision" has any merit

How many of y'all have a mill that ya hafta bust yer butt, gettin a log loaded onto the bed???
How many of Y'all would like to own a loader that is PORTABLE ???
How high is the average lift from the ground to the bunks on yer mill???
Would ya prefer hand crank or Electric, 12V or 115V ???
What would be a fair price Y'all would pay for such a unit???

I'm really looking to see if there is any interest.
I once designed a portable winch that would move major sized boulders out of the rivers, for the gold prospectors, and when I posted a price 20% less than the best out on the market, not ONE person responded.
This, after 10 or so, were BEGGING someone to come up with something decent??? ??? ???
  Ain't doin THAT again.
I read several posts about sawyers hurtin their back and being dead-tired, from rolling logs. ::) ::) ::)

Fla.-,
The price that the mfg's. charge for a hydraulic loader is in the $1500-$2000 range and they already have the tank and the pump. So your price would have to be under $2500. It would have to be build ridged enough to lift a 3500lb. log, so the weight would be a problem for being portable, would need wheels to transport and would need to be connected to the mill so that it doesn't kick away. The speed of operation would be a factor, needs to load a log at a maximum of 4 to 5 min.. The last thing, it must be user friendly. So get your CAD system up and running and see what you come up with. (I roll my logs down hill)

I got a lot of Cad junk iffin anything you need. From top of the line to the bottom.

"D" my friend, Ya ain't even close. ;D
I'm figgerin $800.00-$1200.00, MAX  Could even be cheaper, won't tip, won't roll, won't fall over, not REAL heavy, AND not attached to the mill :o ;D ;) ;) ;)

 And THAT'S all I'm sayin ::) :) :) :)

Tom

What'cha think it's worth, DH? :D

D._Frederick

Fla.-,
Will this equipment be able to do other than load logs? Your price estimate came in at half the going rate for a hydraulic log loader, not bad. Are you basing  that figure on new or surplus components?

Fla._Deadheader

Mainly for loadin logs on the mill. MIGHT be able to load from the side of a low trailer, also.  No technical info available ;)

:)A lift gate from a delivery truck would do the same thing and has been mentioned in the past.  I have hydraulics on one mill and a tractor with a loader for the other :)
