Wood Species Identification

I got my bed extension today for my new Woodmizer LT10. They had to ship it separately. I can now mill logs up to 18 feet long.

I was wondering if anyone has run across a website that goes into the identification of different wood species. Is there one that breaks down by area of the country? If anyone can help with that, I would appreciate it.

Forestman, have you fired up the lt10 yet? We love pics ;)

I don't know of any websites in particular. Although it seems like USForest Service has some tree ID. If you can't find another site, this is the best one for tree ID. Someone here will figure it out. Of course pics are essential 8)

We are still putting my LT10 together. It is located at my business partner's place right now. He is building a trailer to put it on and will mount it on the trailer.

Does anyone have any thoughts on that? Any feedback would be appreciated. Are there any special considerations of a two post system on a trailer rather than a cantilevered head?

When we do get it going, I'll be taking lots of pictures to upload for you all to see.

How well the lt10 trailer works depends on the material you use for a trailer, and leveling apparatus, I would think.

Do you plan to cut on the trailer or have a setup like EZ Boardwalk with the removable axle?

We will probably cut on the trailer. We have a tractor with hooks welded to the front end loader. With chains, we can load logs directly onto the trailer.

There are a bunch of links. Queaver's links have a whole whack of photos of lumber of many species and at just about any lumber surface, from end grain, quartered, to flat sawed. ;D
