The guy who hauled some red pine sawlogs for me last fall told me that a pulp cord of pine weighed approx 1.5 tons.  If I remember correctly ;)  General rule around here is 500 bdft to the cord.

JT this my help Volume Conversion Factors
Arkansas Severance Tax Laws Use the Following Conversion Factors
Sawlogs:    Pine - 8 Tons = 1 Thousand Board Feet (MBF) Doyle Log Rule

Hardwood - 8 Tons = 1 MBF Doyle Log Rule

Pulpwood:  Pine - 2.5 Tons = 1 Cord

                 Hardwood - 3.0 Tons = 1 Cord

These conversion factors are averages. For example, 1 MBF of large pine sawtimber can weigh 5.9 tons while 1 MBF of small pine sawtimber can weigh 9.8 tons. Hardwood log weights vary between different species.

Other Conversion Factors Used
MBF- International-1/4 x 0.74 = MBF Doyle Log Rule

MBF - Scribner Log Rule X 0.78 = MBF Doyle Log Rule

MBF - USFS Scribner Log Rule X 0.814 = MBF Doyle Log Rule

In our area, hardwood rule-of-thumb is 6 ton/Mbf lumber.

Up north here we commonly convert green weight to volumes and visa versa. Some mills use averages for each species grouping {ex: 1)softwood, 2)hardwood and birch and 3)poplar}

For Physical Properties for Hardwood and Softwood and conversions go here:

Sorry folks but braces '[]' aren't compatible html code so I had to upload the table to my site instead of inserting it here, too much editing with so many table rows ;)

I'de like to here from folks about the weights and measure conversions the mills use in your area. Locally, the Marketing Board uses 2.5 green metric tonnes per cord for hardwood, 2.2727 for poplar, 1.87 for softwood.

This makes me crazy! I´ve been looking for density of wood for a while but once again.......I only find it in lb.cu.in.and.....What ##">(%//[ is a CORD?! What ton do You use? :(
In England they turn over to metric measures, inch by inch.    You don´t even try to! :D ;D :D
I´ve no time so  stay here tonight being your entertainer.  I´ll have some matematic exercise. ;D

Lets see so far three maybe four different answers. What you think 35 bucks  ton ? Ok ? Me an Swede still lost as last years easter egg :) 2,000lb Ton.

Poor Swede  :D

a short ton(imperial) = 2000 lbs
a metric tonne = 2200 lbs
1 kg = 2.2 lbs
1 metric tonne =  1.102 short tons (imperial)
1 cubic foot= 0.028 cubic meters
1 cunit = 2.832 cubic meters
1 cord 8 foot swd = 2.265 cubic meters (locally)
1 cord 8 foot hwd = 2.067 cubic meters (locally)
1 cubic meter HWD = 1.04 metric tonne (locally)
1 cubic meter SWD = 0.86 metric ton (locally)
1 cubic meter aspen = 0.97 metric ton (locally)
1 litre water = 1 kg = 2.2 lbs

Here's some average stumpage prices $$CDN there is usually a 10 - 30 % difference either way. :)
