Looking really good fishfighter no more rain or sun on your head. jealous

My first woodmizer LT 40 hd  was and is a 94 model that had been used in a shed where they also salted animal hides. I broke off nearly every bolt/nut I needed out on the whole thing. I KNOW What you are going through. I think maybe just coating them in gun grease might be a better deal?

Fishfighter,
I'm sorry to hear of all that you've been through recently. I'm especially sorry to hear of the loss of your son. I lost my son 18 months ago, and it still hurts like it was just the other day. But you were right when you felt like the Good Lord must have something for you to do. Keep your heart open, and He will show you what it is. Probably will be something you never expected.
I'm praying for strength, and healing for your wrist, and comfort for your heart.

Oh yeah, your sawmill shack looks great!
I need to get the gumption up to finish mine now.

Thank you Red. Yesterday was a day that hurt. :'( Really didn't do anything. I'm going to try and get the roof capping up today. SIL has been working around the clock. It looks like we will be hit by a hurricane come this Sunday down here in Louisiana. :o We could use a little rain, but there are many pecan trees that hasn't dropped there nuts or really to drop. Really a bad crop to start with already. Just don't need winds. I have a crew working their butts off picking what they can at this point, but it don't look good. :(

fishfighter

Got the roof cap on. wasn't easy for a 60 year old man. ;D

And got the end eves framed up.

Going to have to cover the outside one with a tarp till I am able to saw up some more oak lap siding.

Hey Red, when Gumption is finished with yours, let me know how he does, I may want to hire him too!  :D :) :D

Work to 5pm today. :o Started at daylight. :o

So nice to have that shade overhead. ;D

Started pulling the mill crank for the head apart. :o Went and picked up the gears and other parts I need to motorize lifting/lowering the head unit. 8) Dug up the other hub that fits the drive motor and broke out the grinder. Done. Just have to weld things together and make a couple shift rods for the motors and I am good. 8)

And yes, I love my Bud Lights. :D

It's going to be a few weeks before I can use him. Why don't you go ahead and hire him, and then tell me how it goes.

Sounds like y'all need to hire a coonass. Just have to keep them in cold beer all day. :D Oh, they only work with one hand, the other always has a beer in it. :D

Can you be here before the snow flies?  :D

Coonasses don't do snow or whatever that white stuff is. :D

Spent the day cleaning up yesterday. Threw extra weight on dry stack lumber due to the storm coming. Looks like I wasted my time now. :o Shouldn't be bad here at all. ;D Still hoping for some rain from it.

On a side note. I will get the cranking system up and running this morning. Everything lined out nice. ;D

fishfighter

Finished up the motorizing the mill head lift. 8) Why I didn't do this a year ago when I did the drive? >:(

Drive side.

And now the head/crank lift.

Works like a champ. ;D I did weld on the crank handle too for fine adjustments. Just have to make two shift rods that will hook up to the motor gear boxes so I don't have to reach under. Very easy thing to do. Just didn't have any small rods here and don't feel like driving to town to buy any. ;D

Very ingenious my friend.   :P

Nice.  I suppose you'll be adding a log turner and some hydro dogs.  And something for your toeboards.
HM126

fishfighter

Toe boards for sure. ;D Got a couple ideas. Log turner, I will be installing a rail system above the mill bed that will have a trolley winch system that I will use with a cant hook to spin logs and big cants. ;D Have everything to do that now. Log deck is on order to build next. ;D

larrydown60

And like a chicken, I'm out the rain. ;D Speaking of rain, we got less then a inch yesterday from Nate. :(

ChugiakTinkerer

I'm feeling greener than your mill with envy.  Any chance of posting a video of the chain drive in action?

Great news about Nate, feared you might be inundated again.

My internet service is real slow. >:( But I will try to get one up for you. By using the power wheel chair controller which is 24v, I use two 12v lawn tractor batteries. On the motors, the gearboxes can be shifted in and out of gear. That is how I am able to control each motor for what they do.

Cost wise, I think at this point I have around $300.

In the future, I will be swapping out the controller. Member Kbeitz did a great write up on what is need to swap everything over to a 12V system. 8)

Your setup is looking good Paul, and yes, working alone requires much ingenuity as well as clamps.   ;D

I know what you're talking about Paul. Honey do want a mud room so my pump house has been put on hold. So now I have two projects to finish before the snow flies.
