Title: stihl ms 170 handle buffers
Post by: 2308500 on May 18, 2018, 02:50:59 PM

Can new buffers be installed into the ms 170 engine casing WITHOUT removing engine and fuel tank or do i have no other choice but a complete teardown.

i have the old ones taken out without too much difficulty and im wondering if lots of lube will get em into place without tearing apart the whole saw

Sure you can get them in. Lots of play with handle. Shouldn't need lube.

update

tried and tried but i wound up having to unbolt engine from casing.  was able to move cylinder enough to pull plug out, insert buffer and reinstall plug

wasnt bad took about an hour while chatting with the boy :)
