White & Black Oak

I have some white and black oak logs.
I have not cut oak before and I was wondering what is the best sizes
to market it.

When I had a cabinet shop I liked 4/4 12' long.

oak always looks good quartersawn.........  medial rays,  ahhhhh.

I contract sawed Gary White Oak for a local hardwood mill this summer and his fall back size when I wasn't cutting for a special orders was 4/4, (cut size was 1 1/8") random width but the wider the better.

A lot of our larger White Oak has heart shake and rot in the center and it's not good for much more than fire wood.  You can see it as cracks and stars on the ends.
Quarter sawn is best and next best is clear.

All I know about the black oak is it's less dense than the white.
